The UK Blessing - very inspirational

Just that really.

Disappointing that it is not very inclusive.

I thought when I read the title it was aimed at bringing churches together.
No Muslims, Seiks, Jews,Bhuddists or any other religions.

Just a bunch of self congratulatory christians giving themselves a pat on the back.

Very uninspiring.

PurBal · 05/05/2020 08:40

I think I have to agree with PP. I'm a Christian and found it a bit meh musically and certainly not inclusive. It's a shame because it was done with the best of intentions. I also love the passage it's based on which perhaps doesn't help. Some fellow Christians don't like that a decision was made that it is supposed to represent the whole of the UK. But includes just 65 churches.

Italiangreyhound · 05/05/2020 10:38

So that is really interesting speakout you think there would be interest on an interfaith version?

I've been involved on Interfaith walks but I've not seen anything like this on an interfaith version. Can I ask if you belong to one of the religions you mentioned, please?

PurBal does this say it is representing all the UK churches? I just read it as a blessing for the UK.

But there could be multiple blessings so lots of other churches could do it.

I certainly won't be involved as I am pretty much tone deaf!

I do wonder how many organisations working together works before it become a unwieldy. I personally thought 65 was pretty good.

There is always scope for others to do more. Maybe an international version.

Hi @Italiangreyhound this was posted in the Christian coffeehouse and I love it, it made me cry when I'm not usually given to that. I'm not a worship song person but thought the singing good and sound engineering on point.

mostlydrinkstea · 05/05/2020 13:58

It is very lovely and very well produced. It isn't my style of music. I'm more of a Tallis fan myself but I can appreciate how many denominations came together to make it happen.

ZenNudist · 05/05/2020 14:08

On a separate note how do you get involved in an interfaith walk? Feels like a post vaccine idea but personally know no one with both the connections time and inclination to organise.

mostlydrinkstea · 05/05/2020 15:53

See if your C of E or RC Diocese has an interfaith advisor. Or your local council. There was an interfaith walk each year in one town I worked in. We started at one church, went to the Hindu Temple, down to another church then off to the Mosque and a very small Sikh Gurdwara and then off to a council building for intercultural tea. It helped that some of the local councillors were keen.

StrawberryJam200 · 05/05/2020 16:47

@speakout surely then, you mean bringing other faiths together, not churches?

Why did you feel it was self-congratulatory?

I agree it could have included more types of "churchmanship", ie more "high" church, but realistically that depends on contacts, who has professional recording equipment at home, etc. The Methodist National Choir has an equivalent piece, a little more mainstream/traditional, released around Easter which I found equally moving:

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 05/05/2020 16:55

I absolutely love it. I'm sad no one from our town was included but they've done a brilliant job and I recognise some famous faces.

Catinabeanbag · 05/05/2020 21:13

A lot of 'famous' evanglical charismatic churches..... The vast majority of which would not welcome LGBT folk. I wonder if they get the blessing too?

Italiangreyhound · 05/05/2020 23:51

ZenNudist (I love the name!), then I you. I loved it too. Glad to know I was not alone! Flowers

Italiangreyhound · 05/05/2020 23:53

mostlydrinkstea yes I felt 65 churches was quite an achievement.

In some places getting 5 to work together is hard!

OP posts:
Italiangreyhound · 05/05/2020 23:57

ZenNudist I didn't organise it I just heard about it and went on it.

I found it rather nice and humbling to do something like that.

Plus it finished at the mosque and the food was amazing!

The idea of trundling along in the company of so many other people now seems like a distant memory!! Who knows when it will happen again.

Thank you StrawberryJam I will check out the Methodists.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar I think I recognise one famous face from children's TV!

Catinabeanbag the blessing is definitely for everyone. But o know what you mean.

shiningstar2 · 06/05/2020 00:22

The aim was to bring blessing to our country. What's wrong with that. If 65 Mosques or 65 Hindu Temples or 65 Jewish synagogues choose to do the same I would also appreciate that and feel blessed to hear it. Sometimes it seems more ok to be critical towards Christians trying to do something positive than any other group.

Italiangreyhound · 06/05/2020 12:03

shiningstar my thoughts exactly. You can 't really complain that people did something nice bit didn't include every church or faith in the UK. Nothing stopping others doing it too. Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2020 12:13

I thought it was terrible. I can't stand that kind of praise and worship music. The John Rutter version is much nicer!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2020 12:15

@mostlydrinkstea. Me too! I love polyphony and proper choral music! I can't stand praise and worship!

Italiangreyhound · 06/05/2020 15:56

Toddlerteaplease each to their own. Why not link to the John Ritter version so we can listen too?

I do think it's amazing it has over a million hits on YouTube and 46, 000 likes. (391 don't like it).

Lots of negativity here. I think it is really beautiful and I've listened to it a lot.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2020 18:03

@italiangreyhound. I don't know how to upload a video.

Italiangreyhound · 06/05/2020 18:24

Toddlerteaplease you don't need to, you just copy the link and post the link. I will see if in can find it.

Italiangreyhound · 06/05/2020 20:16

October2020 I've been on Mumsnet about decade and I've noticed that sometimes the first posters to a thread can be quite negative. I've no idea why.

Toddlerteaplease was this the version you meant?

Dear Italiangreyhound I remember you with great affection from threads many moons ago (I had a different username) always kind, positive and supportive to others.

I hope you and yours are all well 💐
