Christian Cv19 thread, anyone?

StrawberryJam200 · 12/03/2020 07:49

I was surprised to see nothing on this board, and I don’t think there’s anything under the main Cv19 board either.

I’ve been getting quite concerned about this virus for weeks but trying not to get caught up in secular panic. I feel the need to pray with others about the situation, also to specifically witness to colleagues and my own teens at this time that my eyes are firmly fixed on things above. I confess, they haven’t been lately. I know Christians on here will have a range of reactions to the threat/situation/government response, let’s try to focus on Jesus though. Also to support those in ministry positions, who are going to face a variety of difficult choices and situations in the coming months.
(I might signpost on the CV board so people know about this thread.)
May God bless you all this day.

Have just prayed it and would recommend it even more. Am taking it to my mums’ bible study group tmrw (we’ve used advice from the vicar and a chat on Messenger this evening to decide we will meet but keep distance, bring own cups - and take them away - and make own drinks, and pray).

Careful about the kettle handle! It's actually better if one or two well washed volunteers make all the drinks.

I've just joined a virtual morning prayer, and found the Taizé very calming last night.

I've got local people yammering at me about how we should organise. Couldn't get a bite earlier in the week.

See the archbishops’ letter to clergy here, including a call to prayer on Sunday and to place a lighted candle in a window at 7pm on that day:

It's so sad about churches closing but we are all rallying together. My dh is a vicar so we've been non stop today sorting out plans, how we will care for the congregation etc. We have some good plans in place I think. We'll be live streaming a stripped back service with just a few folk from church (minister, small worship band). People seem very appreciative.

It's so surreal isn't it. I've already gone into lockdown because of my lung diseases so feel very strange that I won't see anyone except immediate family now for 12 weeks Sad I am used to being housebound a lot but still with visitors. Will be using facetime a lot...

ZenNudist · 21/03/2020 08:03

Love Pete Greig Thanks @StrawberryJam200 listening/watching now.

Could anyone please PM me some links to their live stream church service and the time? Im Catholic but happy to have other Christian options. Thank you.

Our vicar has sent some fab ideas for Sunday and am just asking his permission to post them on here.

Hi everyone

Joining in a bit late to the party. DH and I are the cleaners/caretakers/phone answerers etc at our church and we live in the vicarage/rectory house attatched. the pastor is keen to carry on as normal. I think we should be recording/live streaming or something but I have no idea how. We don't have wifi in the church and about half of the people who go here normally are technologically challenged. We are normally a congregation of about 30 regulars but tomorrow there will be about 14 of us.

Catinabeanbag · 21/03/2020 14:33

Our church are live streaming services at 9am, 10am and 6:30 from this week onwards. They did Diddy Disciples yesterday as well.

From social media it looks as if there are loads of options for streaming services from various places, and the Archbishop is doing a service tomorrow on radio 4 and (I think) all the local radio stations. It's at 8:10 am though, so an early one!

StrawberryJam200 · 21/03/2020 14:35

Think there’s advice online about how to stream. Also there will be services in the radio (not sure about TV?) for anyone too. Like the idea of this being a party ..... a praise party?! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏾‍♂️👩🏼‍🏫☝️🙌 Let’s keep worshipping our Lord, even through the hardest times.
Hopefully will hear back from my vicar soon and then be able to post his ideas and links on here.

Still checking with our Rev (who looked so tired in his online bit of our service today), but you can definitely watch this wonderful video from Home for Good, the Christian charity which supports adoption and fostering, about all the different kinds of mothering in the Bible:

@elliejjtiny I don't think you should be meeting at all now, not with 14 certainly :(

We livestreamed this morning and there was such a lovely feel in all the FB live comments, a lot of love and community.

elliejjtiny · 22/03/2020 19:10

Thankyou. In the end there were 9 of us at the service this morning and we have now closed for the duration. First time since about 1940 something that the evening service hasn't been on here and the first time I haven't been at the evening service since my youngest dc was born in 2014.

Anyone feel like posting on the “Did God create Coronavirus?” thread which is running currently? I’ve just put in my tuppennyworth! There’s a few good contributions on there but it could do with some more. Was trying to find a concise response online quickly from somewhere/ Anglican Church but couldn’t. I know thegoodbookcompany are taking preorders for a short book someone’s already written though:

Hi all, late to the thread but have prayed for those needs mentioned, and appreciate the links to various messages and books. We all need to support, encourage and strengthen one another.

My (evangelical) church has closed. I understand why (because we are submitted to our government authorities) but it breaks my heart that at a time when people are feeling so scared and alone, all the church doors are closed! Still, its heartwarming to see on tv the many acts of kindness and service people are providing within their own communities. My local parish council has posted flyers to let people know they are not alone and help is a phone call away.

God bless and keep all the NHS staff and other key workers, and protect them and their families.

Thank you for the thread and I'm going to pre-order that book x

StrawberryJam200 · 24/03/2020 08:48

Hi silverwolf and all on here, and any looking! I hope and pray that you’re all OK as we wake up to lockdown this morning. Our God is loving, unchanging, suffering with His people. Praise Him.

I had a go at it, @StrawberryJam200. Tricky!

Hello @silverwolf. It is hard that the doors are closed, but I like the way Tearfund put it in an email: Let's take the church out of the building. This is a chance to be the body of Christ together in a seemingly impossible situation. So great to see churches stepping up to this everywhere.

StrawberryJam200 · 28/03/2020 14:11

Oh blow I just tried to copy and paste our church service last Sunday from the vicar’s email but none of the links copy. Hope you can find something online though for tomorrow! There’s loads of stuff out there.

I feel like I’ve only really got to the point in the last couple of days where I can calm down enough to pray ‘properly’. How do others feel?

Take care

Hi Strawberryjam

Ive been watching the recorded masses from our church on Facebook this week. Id never usually be able to go to mass so much so I'm enjoying them. But I worry I'm not doing as much normal chatting to god. I also started using the ibreviary app and downloading the evening prayer. I even have a bash at singing the hymn. I dont feel very connected and dont feel Im doing enough in terms of real actions. My morning praying the rosary on the tram has bitten the dust (obviously) and I have not prayed it as much since stopping commuting.

I've still got bunker mentality and dont see how as Im scared to go out I can really do much for the needy. Im a bit useless really. But useful at home looking after my family. Its a start.

I just found the Catholic faith in isolation videos which are great.
www.faithinisolation.com

Thing is watching a video and joining in with recorded worship just feels lacking compared to coming together in physical worship.

StrawberryJam200 · 28/03/2020 17:07

We can help the needy by praying, donating money if possible, keeping in telephone contact with any known personally to us, sharing appeals on social media?

I think it is lovely that so many churches are reaching out to offer support and worship. It is of great comfort and support to me, and a lifeline to the anxious and lonely. Feels like we're together.
I think it is worth re posting this one www.faithinisolation.com/
May God give you peace in these times.

Meadowland · 30/03/2020 09:15

I listen to this every morning too.
Such a calming influence.
