Am I right in thinking you don't celebrate Easter? Would it be an issue if I gave a Jehovah's Witness child a small chocolate egg/other sweet?

For background, I am a TA in a CofE school, I usually buy the whole class a little chocolate egg each for the last day of term before Easter, but I have a Jehovah's Witness in my class this year and I don't want to give them something they aren't allowed.

They do have a celebration around Easter time but it's not called Easter and my cousin who is a jw wouldn't thank me if I gave her DC an egg. I would get a lecture on it being a pagan Easter symbol and something she doesn't want her child to be involved with. A small choc bar with no pagan connection wouldn't be a problem.

Ooh is there a gift they get for the celebration round the same time? I feel a bit bad the kid is left out of the Christmas and Birthday sweets too so I'd like to be able to do something special for them.

Around Xmas time DD used to buy a very not-Christmasy sort of chocolate item & give it to her JW BFF as a 'friendship' present. That was well received.

DM is a JW and I was raised as one. (Although I am definitely not one! I left at 14.) I would not have been allowed the chocolate egg. I would have be allowed to accept a normal chocolate bar, or a bag of chocolate buttons etc.
And it would be so nice if you did this for the child. My childhood was shit and I was well aware of missing out.
The JW's celebrate the Memorial, which coincides with Passover as it is in remembrance of Jesus and the disciples celebrating the Last Supper. There is a special service and bread and wine are passed around the congregation.
That's it.
No party, no presents, and no fun. Confused

Perfect, thank you all. Totally not Easter related treat with a little note saying 'well done on working so hard this term' it is.

@BaronessBomburst I try not to judge but child misses out on so much of the fun stuff and I feel so sorry for them! My parents are overly strict religious which was pretty pants but at least they're Catholic so after more hours of church than any child should have to sit through there were presents/chocolate eggs to look forward to.

That will be perfect. Smile
