Spiritual/Religous path

Hi everyone, I would love to receive some advice or help. For a while now I feel that something is spiritually missing in my life. I’m feeling confused as to which path to take.

I was raised Catholic but never really had any interest growing up. I’ve always felt drawn to paganism, specifically Heathenry or Norse paganism. I regularly use crystals and herbs, and I believe the pagan Gods exist. When reading into it I noticed most people who follow this really do not like Jesus Christ, and don’t even believe he exists.

I do believe in Jesus, I also believe in Angels and completely love the Archangels and pray to Michael daily. I know most people would say I should be Christian, but I do not agree with the Christian concept of a God and what is written in the Bible and Old Testament. I believe in the concept of there being a “divine mother and father” creator, and not a God that sits on a throne and throws people into hell.

I’m just feeling very lost and confused. I’ve read that there are even “Christo-pagans” now, is anybody here a Christo-pagan?

Thank you!

I think that is something you have to work out for yourself- some seem to have squared the circle, but I personally see a huge dissonance between paganism and christianity.

Not so much from the spiritual point of view but the idea that some geezer sits in judgement.
It's the power stuff that sticks in my throat like a furball.

I do know that some do manage to straddle the path , but to me they are polar opposite.

Either he is in charge or you are.

To me it can't be both.

There are Christopagans out there but it is a very hard square to circle as the belief structures of the two faiths are incompatible. Christians believe in one God. Pagans don't. I know people who are involved in where the faiths cross over and there are good conversations about areas of common concern such as a love and care for creation and ritual. One group that explores this crossover is the Forest Church movement. They will vary in how Christian or Pagan they are depending on who is leading the local group but it might be work looking to,see if there is one near you as you might find like minded people.

The other place to look might be the liberal and/or ritual part of Christianity. I can't help with the pagan bit as I'm not but I do know some ex pagans who found themselves drawn into Christianity and find themselves in Anglo Catholic or Roman Catholic Churches.

I flirted with the idea of Christopaganism for a time, coming out of very, very patriarchal fundamentalist Christianity. The feminine aspects of deity in Paganism were very appealing.
But ultimately, I do believe the essence of Christianity, so I found it too big a leap to jettison everything, and Christopagan ideas seemed like a decent compromise.

Obviously everyone walks their own path so I don't have issue with people who can blend things, but I found it a bit too much of a headtwist to deal with the contradictions, and the oppobrium of both faith communities too.

Eventually I found my way to Catholicism, which is such an enormous institution, spanning the world and the centuries, that it actually wasn't too difficult to find an expression of faith that felt right, including a sense of femininity that was lacking in the white-walled churches I had been part of before.

Take your time and explore what feels like home to you. Believe what you actually believe, because anything else will mean heartache in the long run. Being authentic about what you personally hold to means you'll be happier, and those around you will be too.

Sounds like you're looking for something and to get there you are prepared to believe in everything at the same time. Is it possible to be multi-faith? I thought the whole point was that you believed in your chosen way over all others - you make it sound like a pick 'n mix.

Vitalogy · 24/12/2018 12:42

Is there any need to put a label on yourself OP. Go with what feels right within you. Whatever religion/non religion that might be.

you make it sound like a pick and mix I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Pick the truth out, disregard the rest.

Do you mean to be so rude?

There is nothing to go on. It is all circumstantial evidence. When you find that which is evident, then you will know the Truth.

Catinabeanbag · 26/12/2018 19:10

A lot of the writings about Celtic Christianity (St Aiden / St Columba etc) pull together elements about nature, the natural world, cycles of birth, death, etc.

There are also crossovers with monasticism, so if you want something more contemplative and mystical, it could be worth exploring further.

Sounds fair enough, I'll need evidence that's not just circumstantial to convince what I like to think of as 'me'

The evidence is already there. You might not see it, but I do. The only way to find it is to drop the self created egoic identity you call me and be authentic without that.

Truth is a really complex subject and not just truth = facts and materialism plato.stanford.edu/entries/truth/

Getting back to the OP the comment about Celtic Christianity could be a good place for the OP to explore. This site is Christian but what they discuss here is how they are working out what Celtic Christianity it might be in the 21st century. www.northumbriacommunity.org/articles/celtic-spirituality-a-beginners-guide/

Only in perception

Keeps the philosophers off the streets though.
