Goodness this thread moves so quickly! Just catching up.
Speakout I'm so pleased everything's settled down in your house now.

I'm wondering if anyone who has experience with crystals can help me. My friend bought a dowsing pendant when we went to Avebury yesterday. When she home this morning it was broken in half. No one else in the house and it was exactly where she left it. Her feeling is that perhaps spirit aren't happy with her working with this particular pendulum. That doesn't feel right to me. Any thoughts?

VioletCharlotte · 13/01/2019 15:46

Here's a picture of it.

Any Witches Here Part 5.
Elphame · 13/01/2019 16:34

I suspect it was cracked before she bought it but then I do prefer the boring mundane explanations.

VioletCharlotte · 13/01/2019 16:42

I'm inclined to agree Elphame.

speakout · 13/01/2019 18:00

I agree with Elphame too.
If the crystal had an existing crack ( could be hairline or practically invisible) then something as simple as a drop in temperature overnight could cause it to break.

GrumpyOldMare · 13/01/2019 18:19

The same thing happened to my amethyst dowsing pendant. One day, fine. The next day,the tip split off. I still use her,to be hnest, she's ''feels'' better and more ''mine'' since it happened. Odd,maybe.

I also had a piece of labradorite that a friend gave me,it split cleanly in half suddenly, one day. I got in contact with her and turns out she'd been going through a bit of a rough time. Coincidence? No such thing in my book.

BlankTimes · 13/01/2019 19:22

Is that pendulum fluorite? If so that's fairly soft as crystals go. Someone in the shop could have dropped it before she bought it, cracked it and with the change of temperature from shop to her house, the crystal that was already broken has just made that more obvious.

Anyway, after she's worked out its yes and no response, I'd say get her to hold it awhile and then ask it if it still wants to be used as her pendulum.
See top picture here - I should be cooking dinner and am being prompted to do so! Please excuse brevity etc.
serendipitycrystals.co.uk/key/
I've not read any text so can't say whether I agree with anything written there, it's only to show anyone who doesn't already know what a key crystal looks like.

I'm of the era where you make your own tools whenever possible. I spent ages choosing the right 'everything', I wrapped a really zingy quartz point around its key with silver wire and made a spiral design on it front and back, added a silver chain, consecrated it and used it as my pendulum for a few years then one day I dropped it on the stone floor. Now it doesn't look very attractive because it's almost more setting than stone, but it's still a really, really good working tool.

VioletCharlotte · 13/01/2019 19:32

Thanks all. Hairline crack feels right to me.

Sokere · 13/01/2019 20:12

Thank you Elphame, YashmisCrone. It's very odd. Essentially, a simple candle meditation for good good luck (used honey too) but brought the opposite for me, plus a relative who experienced precisely the same mishaps as me (only found that bit out today) l didn't do a circle, so maybe it was that. . My vague intentions for myself I can kind of see the error, but not the good luck spell for her.

In any event, I did some protective stuff this morning with Bay leaves. It could be coincidence I guess. Time will tell if the event I was trying to influence will come about. I'll follow your advice too, so thank you for that.

YashmisCrone · 13/01/2019 21:14

Sorry to hear about the mishaps Sokere, I think like speakout said earlier it’s often hard to tell whether events following any spell or ritual are coincidental or link to what we worked on.

I have to say though it’s sounds highly unlikely to me from what you’ve said that you’ve caused such an opposite result to what you focused on, unless it’s all part of an obscure route as yet unseen.

Either way, hope you’re feeling better for your protection work. Take care of you x

Violet that’s a very beautiful looking pendulum your friend bought

Hope everyone’s having a peaceful evening

BartonHollow · 13/01/2019 21:27

What do we think about unconscious influencing

So you don't do any working either way

But

You mentally consider a situation and realise X Outcome would be best for me, but might be terrible for persons Y and Z

So you don't do a working because you don't feel comfortable and when X looks more likely - did you influence it via thought alone? Or not?

Elphame · 13/01/2019 22:09

My feeling is probably yes Barton. The mind is a powerful thing and you really don’t need all the trappings to practice the craft. They are fun and nice to have and do help with focus but you should be able to work without them.

Sometimes just thinking about an outcome is enough to tip the cosmic scales.

mamuciana · 13/01/2019 23:17

Blessings all,
I felt it was time to stop hanging back in the shadows and introduce myself. I’m not a witch but have always had a definite interest/intuition and am fascinated by history, especially ancient cultures, mythology and the cultural practices we have today that we really don’t realise stem from the ideas and beliefs of our forebears. There are no witches in the family that I know of, but my Mum, Dad, 2 sisters and 2 cousins all practice reiki. I guess there must be something in the genes somewhere.

I've been reading through all of the threads - I'm currently enjoying all of your prep for Samhain on thread 4. It is taking me some time to catch up with you as I currently have 49 tabs open, checking out the books, videos and links you've been kind enough to share and happily side-tracking myself in order to learn more. Wonderful stuff and such a warm, supportive community you have here – I’m hoping to be less of a lurker as I move along my path.
Wishing you all a wonderful evening by the Aga.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/01/2019 08:35

I had a very odd day yesterday in the end. The wind had an air of ill intent. I'd like to blame it for some events but tbf we are just that dysfunctional as a family here. My knee collapsed and is now causing me problems. Lots of uneasiness and small niggly things. I am trying to be cautious and just putting it down to one of those days but part of me wonders if dwelling on the chair gave it power. Any thoughts?

Today is a day for crystals and glitter hairspray. Pain is high, resistance is low.

speakout · 14/01/2019 09:24

mamuciana

A very warm welcome. I am glad you posted- there is such a lot to read through, don't be afraid to dive in.
Although some topics may have been discussed previously, no one will mind chatting about a topic again. It's always nice to have a new slant.

HillsBesideTheSea

Sorry things are not great. I do hope my chair has not caused any negative energy.
I feel bad for posting a picture of it, if I had picked up on the vibrational energy of it more quickly I could have acted sooner.

Sorry.

Morning Sisters,

The day here started with a clear blue sky which has become darker as the morning has progressed. It feels more wintry but still mild for this time of year.

Barton I think that’s a tricky one, I’m not sure I could give a clear answer even of my own opinion on that. I agree with what Elphame says and think that any work we do is essentially influencing using our minds with symbolism and trimmings to help focus. Focused intent will definitely change things IME. On the other hand I don’t like the idea that we can haphazardly and accidentally make things happen just by thinking them... this could lead to us being scared to think anything.

mamuciana welcome. It’s good to have you join us.

Hills sorry to hear things are difficult. I think you’ve got a powerful ability in terms of picking up energy and a clear sight that whilst being a ‘gift’ can become a burden if not ‘controlled’. I think your grounding and connecting with nature and protection practices are perfect to help you work towards this. I know some people also work on switching their abilities on and off so as to feel more in control. I’m hoping some of our friends here will have some more specific suggestions to help you do this. I hope today’s a calmer one for you.

speakout it’s probably not my place to say but please don’t be sorry. I like the way we can share so much here. It’s all part of the rich tapestry we weave. I think Hills was talking about her focus on the chair rather than you posting it.

The day has come where I can no longer avoid working amongst people- a test for my root strengthening work! I’ll be interested to note how/if my energies have changed and what impact that has.

Sending love to all x

BlankTimes · 14/01/2019 11:37

Quick dash in to say morning and to avoid doing things which are much less appealing.

Welcome mamuciana there's a cushion by the Aga for you and tea aplenty.

Here follows some musings of mine.
Barton if we could haphazardly influence things by thought, we'd not have the society we have today, most politicians and lower tiers of government wouldn't survive the (whether justified or not) onslaught of negativity from the population. Planes wouldn't fly because of all the fear phobia from nervous passengers. Spiders and other creatures would cease to exist because of the phobias about them.

Western societies tend to live in their heads and then think (!) that's the only way of being. No wonder CBT is so successful Smile
There is more to intention being able to influence than just thinking, even intense phobic thinking/projection/anxiety etc.

Hills there's a name for your gift, psychometry, but if you investigate, don't be disheartened about all the negative articles calling it fakery, there are similar articles about everything that's outside the standard 5 senses that most people don't want to venture outside of.
No, I don't think you gave the chair power at all, there's more to intent than just thinking.

Glitter hairspray and good nutrition with some self-care go a long way to making things more balanced and tolerable. Flowers

Yashmis I thought of your dramatic skies when I woke in the night and saw only stars. As is the way with stars, the longer I looked, the more I saw. Wish I could have photographed it for all of you, there's little light-pollution here but often it's cloudy, clear nights like that are truly magical.

speakout · 14/01/2019 11:55

BlankTimes

I agree about intent/wishful thinking.

To me that's the difference between wishful thinking and witchcraft.

It's the ritual/symbolism, the extra ordinary things we do that communicates the intent to our sunbconcious mind that makes it witchcraft.

Perhaps some very powerful individuals may be able to have a manifeststion through thought power alone, but no one I have known.

Some of my most effective workings are the ones where I take a great deal of time and energy to plan, prepare and research.
Writing new spells and devising ritual - these are the times when my magical energies are highest.

Love the sound of your magical sky BlankTimes Smile

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/01/2019 18:28

Yashimis is quite correct. Speakout it is more the fact that my mind kept wandering back to the images I saw which was unsettling. And ime if you look or focus on the bad that is all that you see. Iyswim. My mind is not always as correctly focused as it should be actually my mind and thoughts are like a herd of cats with lizards mixed in that I am trying to tame and order sometimes Plus I saw more then I described because what I saw was not pleasant.

Elphame · 14/01/2019 18:47

Good evening! Hard to believe it is only early January. I saw lots of snowdrops and even daffodils in bloom on this mornings walk. A lot of the wild plants are also stirring into life. Lots of Herb Robert and even more of that blasted cleavers! I did pick some for an immune system boosting tea (and to discourage the wretched stuff!)

We haven't really had winter yet here

speakout · 14/01/2019 18:50

HillsBesideTheSea

I hope you are feeling much more settled this evening.

Elphame

Yes! I have been noticing new life too- buds appearing, shoots coming up from the ground, lots of catkins around.

You are right it doesn't feel like January.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 14/01/2019 18:58

Yes thank you Speakout between pain and lessons my brain was kept focused which helps. Just tired and ready for an early night.

I wish I could get out in our garden, we have a fabulous lot of flowering snowdrops. I'd love a picture to share.
There is a nip to the air, the sort that suggests that the threatened snow might not be completely delusional. It won't stick though, the ground is too warm. Sad

I have a book on norse magic on my self, it hasn't felt right to properly delve into its contents but I am drawn almost compulsorily to it. Hoping to curl up with a hot water bottle with it when I have finished some chores that need doing. Little things like not killing the fish and ensuring the teen has clean bedding after an accident with a drink. You know all the important stuff

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/01/2019 18:58

shelf not self. sorry I suspect the typos might be multiple tonight

Fundays12 · 14/01/2019 19:04

Hey just saw this thread as am very interested. I have been practicing magic for years although don’t get nearly as much time, energy or quiet as I would like to nowadays. Does anyone know if the pendulum works when telling you if your having a boy or girl? I have never actually used it although I have had 2 kids (knew my second was a boy before I even conceived him no idea why) but this pregnancy was a surprise.
