Hi not really sure how to word this correctly or what not. Anyway we would like to get our baby's christened I have been reading up on the internet about them, have found a church to do it at. What happens ? Sounds so stupid but there is so much on the internet and I got
Glued to reading other people's dramas/ events cough cough thanks MN. GrinHaha anyway would love to hear how yours went or if you attended one. ( what did people do after? We was thinking to go for a meal. It would only be family and a few close friends at the christening anyway, bit anxious as mine and partners families don't really blend to well together. That could probably be for another thread(regarding our soon to be wedding)

Events like these when researching is so overwhelming for me.
Hope to hear positive things *
I am probably reading to much into it* paranoid and anxious Blush

I have been a god parent twice at Church of England christenings and this is how they conduct their service.
churchofenglandchristenings.org/service-step-step/
Its a simple service and very family/child friendly.
Afterwards we went back to the home of the childs parents on one christening and the church hall for the other larger christening.
Both had a buffet laid out with cups of tea, coffee , soft drinks, beer and wine. Both had a christening cake.
The buffet can come ready prepared from a supermarket no need for any thing too grand. It also means people are not trapped at a table in a restaurant but can leave when they want to.
I hope you have a lovely day

The link above gives a good outline of what is in the service. Some C of E churches only do baptism in the main Sunday service so go along to the one you have chosen and find out what they do. Others do baptisms in the afternoon. If the church you have chosen is not your parish church then they may ask you to attend for a few months before they book the service. If you are looking at denominations other than the C of E then it may be that they only do baptisms for members of their own congregation so you need to find out more.

As far as the party goes then we had two low key affairs in the back garden and one bigger do in the church hall with a bring and share buffet.

It is possible the priest/vicar/minister will want to meet you first, to explain what christening is all about, answer any questions you may have and talk through the service.

I've been to loads of christenings, and the after party/events are as different as the families involved. What would your family usually do celebrate a significant event?

I've been to bring-and-share buffets in halls (mainly churchgoers) , home prepared buffets, catered buffets, some at home some in a venue or hall or pub room (alcohol usually offered at all).
Small and big family meals in restaurants.
And some who just did the service and that was it.

A christening cake is traditional, but completely optional.

My dd's were both christened in the Catholic Church.
Met with he priest, he asked if godparents were also Catholic.
Turned up at mass on Sunday along with other babies being christened.
After we went back to our house had Christening Cake, buffet, and lots of alcohol.
We gave a donation to the church.
