I have to go, not had my dinner yet but would love to carry on this conversation later.

loupylou, if you don't mind me asking how long have you been studying witchcraft for?

I'm asking because opening a circle is sort of Witchcraft 101 and I am concerned that these people are talking about you going to major rituals and having an initiation. They are sounding more dodgy by the minute.

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2007 21:23

I was thinking that too.

I also need to go though - exhausted and still have 100 things to get done

By the sounds of it you would be better off distancing yourself from these people, getting some books for home, and easing in slowly.

Cunningham - A Guide to the Solitary Practitioner was one of the easiest to use books I had in the beginning.

im a complete beginner stg,ive branched out from clairvoyance and tbh this would of been my first event, it wasnt for my initiation she said its an annual thing that witches go to she said i will need a wand and cloak, and she also said i will need lessons from her husband before hand on how to open circle (????????)

I hesitate to put my oar in, as i know very little about the subject, but you said this lady does Reiki??? I know several reiki practitioners and what you are describing doesn't sound compatible with reiki at all. I have a really bad feeling that these people are stringing you along and have an unpleasant ulterior motive. Just my opinion. but I would steer clear.

loopylou6 · 21/04/2007 21:26

thank u very much flame and stg, your insights have been invaluable and i really appreciate it.

3littlefrogs, yes she has quite along list of "talents" lol, she is a body piercer, she practices reiki, she does aura cleansing phychic readings tarot and she is a high priestess...u are not sticking your oar in lol, i need the advice

i am not a witch but find it v interesting and suppose u could say i skirt around aspects of it-ish and would say that one of the most common things i have heard about covens is that the witches in them dance around naked in the moonlight.

If there is anything uncomfortable with any part of it - be it initiation or not- then you would get no spiritual 'enlightenment' (the word i actualy wanted has gone from my mind)

MerlinsBeard · 21/04/2007 21:30

flame - the phoenix thing is one i have had for you for ages...your name makes me think of it...FLAMEbird= phoenix

SaintGeorge · 21/04/2007 22:24

Reiki and Witchcraft are compatible, but Reiki and dodgy practices aren't.

Genuine Witchcraft is something that is 'learnt' slowly and naturally. You don't need all the stuff like cloaks and wands, they are nice and dramatic but not essential items. If you are going to use them, the wand especially isn't something you should be using as a beginner.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 13:44

have decided im not gonna bother now, will continue witch craft on me own, have just purchased 2 books from amazon written by someone west lol, it also bothered me what u said bout them expecting me to open circle when i am inexperianced, i dont wanna dabble that much when im not sure what im doing

IMO a wise decision loopylou.

Flamesparrow · 22/04/2007 14:10

Oh I am so relieved to hear that - even dreamt about this last night!

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 14:10

thanks stg, i think so to. if anybody knows what opening a circle actually does would they let me know when they have time, is it something to do with trying to reach another realm?

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 14:11

thanks for your concern flame

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 22/04/2007 14:13

Yes, in a sense.

The circle is the area in which you do your working. It is an area of protection for you, but also a way of containing any energies that are raised as you do magical work. Those emergies are under your control whilst you are working and released in a controlled manner when you finish.

SaintGeorge · 22/04/2007 14:13

emergies? WTF are they?

I meant energies of course.

loopylou6 · 22/04/2007 14:16

ok thanks for that, phew im so glad im not going lol, suppose it wrong to expect me to participate in all that when i dont have a clue yet . anyway im off to go buy some new bras now, will pop back later xx

I've been wondering for ages if i'm a wiccan as i've always loved being near and in woods.
Notice everything in nature and love owls and cats and just love everything to do with nature.
I'm not interested in the spellcasting just worshiping the goddess and nature itself.
Any pointers on getting started?

Don't think it is Wicca that you want as that is very Craft and ritual orientated.

Paganism in general sounds more like what you are looking for. Many Pagans choose to follow a Goddess path rather than involving the Lord for the balance he gives but it is for you to explore and find your own path.

Authors I like are Marian Green and Rae Beth, amongst others. Although they are Craft based and therefore involve spells etc, you can easily just take what you need from them and adapt it to yourself.
