Interested in Islam?

Ok so I'm interested in looking into Islam. I think I believe in god but I wouldn't say I'm religious at all. I know little bits about Islam but I'm not full of knowledge. I'm quite a factual person so need something to 'blow my mind' to believe if that makes sense? Any reverts here that could point me in the right direction? Also what made you revert did you suddenly become a believer or did it take time to read and look into it? Thanks :)

Perhaps you could evolve some more by on this female dominated forum by learning that your beliefs do not trump someone else's beliefs and you may get more of a dialogue if you engage with those with differing views in a more dignified manner

Please show me where I think my beliefs trump anyone else's or where I haven't been dignified.

Why are you trying to enforce your beliefs on others

Good luck, I mean it, in finding on here where I have tried to do that.

hmmwhatatodo · 20/09/2017 22:24

I'd say you were fairly negative from your very first post daddi. The op didn't post to hear your thoughts on why she should stay away from religion.

PeaceAndLove1 · 20/09/2017 22:29

I can't imagine myself ever jumping onto an 'I'm interested in Christianity' type thread to ask the op to consider my way or to have a go at Christianity. I usually give alternative suggestions Grin, I tell you what bugs me, is when someone starts a thread about spirituality and lots of Christians come on presuming they mean Christianity.

babba2014 · 20/09/2017 22:30

Feel free to message me OP

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 22:32

The op didn't post to hear your thoughts on why she should stay away from religion

But she posted on a public forum, I would suggest that if she really wanted to learn about a certain religion then maybe MN isn't the place to ask?

I answered because it's my heart felt belief that we shouldn't lose any more people to dogma that is millennia old.

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 22:33

and if this thread was about joining the jewish or christian faiths I would have said exactly the same things.

hmmwhatatodo · 20/09/2017 22:44

Why isn't this a good place for the op to ask about Islam? She posted in the religion section and Muslims have offered suggestions. Unfortunately lots of others have chipped in to give their opinion of what would be better for the op.

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 22:47

It's a good place to ask, it's not a good place if you don't expect other people not to give their opinions.

PeaceAndLove1 · 20/09/2017 22:47

I believe that life in the universe is incredibly rare, especially life that has the ability love and to nurture Surely that's improbable with the sheer size of the universe.

I feel that we're connected to the planet and that all life is precious. Every single living organism on the planet is related, we all came from each other, this is undeniable scientific fact. I agree with that.

I'm not sure the religions have hijacked love, I certainly believe that instead of walking the walk regarding love, they mostly just talk about it, if at all.

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 22:54

I still think it's rare, have you heard of the Fermi Paradox? Apologies if you have.

Doesn't your paragraph actually back up what I've said? :)

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 20/09/2017 23:00

Hang on.

Isn't this thread supposed to be @loversrock wanting to know about reverts and suggestions about where she can get more info?

It seems to have turned into one about Daddis' religious opinions.

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 23:03

My opinions on religion rather than my religious opinions, I don't have any of the latter.

Apologies for threadjacking, it's just something I feel strongly about, I shall desist.

hmmwhatatodo · 20/09/2017 23:03

Indeed mouse! Anyway, I really should get to sleep so I can wake up tomorrow and carry on being successful in my working life ...

Dadddi · 20/09/2017 23:04

Nos Da, hmmwhatatodo

Sparkster · 20/09/2017 23:52

OP, the day you go for hajj and set eyes on the Kabah, will be the day that will blow your mind Flowers
Inshallah.

PeaceAndLove1 · 21/09/2017 00:02

No I've not heard of the Fermi Paradox, if I had to pick it'd be 9 and 10, what would you pick? Although I feel this too.

PeaceAndLove1 · 21/09/2017 00:06

the day you go for hajj and set eyes on the Kaba I should imagine that to be a very powerful experience, all the energy from the masses focasing together.

DioneTheDiabolist · 21/09/2017 00:22

Oh Dadddi, the irony of your posts has me pmsl. Keep on "evolving" man.GrinGrinGrin

As a Muslim I don't want discourage you from learning about Islam but it doesn't seem like it would be for you! However, many peoples lives change dramatically when they fall in love with God. The first thing I think you should do is go on youtube and listen to some recitations, My favourite reciter is Sheikh Abdel Rahman Al Ossi- . Islam is the Qur'an, see how it makes you feel. If you want to learn more I recommend reading the Sahih International translation of the Qur'an or one called The Message of the Qur'an by Muhammad Asad, and I like In The Footsteps of the Prophet by Tariq Ramadan and Mufti Menk and Sheikh Omar Suleiman on youtube. yaqeeninstitute.org has great articles. A lot of people revert to Islam but even more leave to be honest, I think its not something that should ever been done unless your hearts fully in it.

Pannnn · 21/09/2017 07:08

Well quite. The OO was asking about Islam and any convert/revert experiences.
Would someone without cats turn up at the litter tray topic and start outlining their experiences with dogs? Daddi?

You have an opinion about religion. Good for you. But frankly no-one asked you to share it here.

zippey · 21/09/2017 08:19

Be wary about Islam though. There is a price to pay (death) if you want to change away from Islam at a later date.

Fekko · 21/09/2017 08:37

I've only come across this first hand and that was abroad. It was down to an inheritance issue and royally bit the guy on the backside as to try to fiddle a child out of inheritance is a really big No No.

I don't think it's an issue in normal circumstances.

Fekko · 21/09/2017 08:39

I'm coming at this thread from the situation of someone with half the family being Muslim and coming from a theocracy (which is not brilliant in practice).

Pannnn · 21/09/2017 08:48

Death....hmm.....a fate reserved only for those people. Grin

Fekko · 21/09/2017 08:51

Of course the Christian 'death' is thought of as being separated from god.

This guy - I don't remember what happened to him but there was talk of jail time.
