Ds has asked me a question that I cannot answer, so I have come to consult the Oracle of Mumsnet.

When Muslims say Mohammed's name, they follow it with "Peace be upon him".

Do other religions have similar rituals, things that the adherents must say or do in response to something they have said/heard/seen etc?

I guess so. Some things probably have fallen out of use though - Christianity and Judaism are older religions.

There are liturgical responses in Anglicanism, but not something you would find in casual speech.

Maybe crossing oneself in certain circumstances if particularly catholic?

What about Catholics crossing themselves? We have the impression that it is something that is done outside active prayer, for example when seeing a dead body, and wondered whether it was an expected action or a personal response.

Hmmm I believe some Jewish people won't say or write god (so will write g-d instead)

Catholic people often cross themselves if they see an ambulance. Is that what you mean? Or they saying "thanks be to god" or "please god" has crossed over into normal parlance for Irish people, even non religious people.
