Are there really messages in our dreams?

I have been having recurring dreams which are really getting to me. They are always about water, either about violent waves or else floods. The last wave dream I had was that there were massive waves coming in and though I kept getting sucked under I never drowned. The last flood one was that I was trying to get away from flood waters and no matter what direction I took I headed into a flood. Last night was about going uphill and the flood waters came violently and I just ran for my life. I have always had extremely vivid dreams but they seem so, so real of late that I am actually exhausted when I get up in the mornings. What are these trying to tell me?

I believe it's your subconsious processing something you've pushed aside and not acknowledged. It's just an image of your emotions, the feelings are important in analysing the dream.

Thanks Rebel but can anyone interpret

This is what it says in my book about the meaning of Dreams:

Waves: To dream of seeing high waves dashing on the shore predicts the futility of your love affair.

Flood: This is a dream that should put you on your guard against crooks, gangsters and other evil persons. If you are swept away by a flood you are in danger of losing your head over some unscrupulous person of the opposite sex.

Surfer
Thank you
I am just wondering cos there is such a correlation if there is an in between.

can relate to some of what you say even though it isn't a love affair as such.

but still the dream frightens me

my gut feeling is with pruni's that you are feeling overwhlemed by something. It's up to you to decide what that is though, I don't believe that it is possible to analyse dreams without knowing a bit more about the peron dreaming. After all dreams are just a heightened sense of what is going on in your midn during the day.

Being overwhelmed is frightening.

I'm experiencing strong dreams atm, you thread prompted me to start a thread of my own, because I know my dreams are related to what I have been thinking during the day, it is the vividness that is bothering me.

rebelmum1 · 29/03/2007 12:55

only you really can analyse your own dream as its relating to something that's troubling you that you haven't processed or dealt with

some of my dreams have been so vivid, i had them as a young child and I still remember them today

I can recommend a book called The Dictionary for Dreamers, by Tom Chetwynd, an analysis of the possible interpretations of over 500 symbols commonly encountered in dreams, based on writings of such authorities as Freud, Jung and Adler. First published in 1974

Available on Amazon and all good online bookshops.
