Hi there,

I'm just curious to know if anyone here is Pagan/Wiccan/witchy and how long you've been practising for?
It's something I've been into for a very long time, without even realising I was into!
I'm also interested in aspects of Buddhism.

Just me?

I'm pagan and practice witchcraft but I'm not Wiccan. Have been for many many years now

Yes- Hi, I am Wiccan, been practicing for over 30 years. Merry meet!

OdinsLoveChild · 11/06/2017 20:20

Im pagan more Astaru/Norse now but started out wiccan about 30 years ago.

Theres loads of us around. Theres a group on here somewhere, at least there used to be. 🤔

Knit1Purl1K2tog · 17/06/2017 21:30

I've just started reading up on Wicca. It's something I'm interested in. Would be great to have someone to talk to about it.

I may not be wiccan but I do work with more than few so I'm happy to chat if that helps

BroomstickOfLove · 18/06/2017 07:28

I'm not any more, but was for years, and I still work with my old coven. What sort of things attract you, Knit1? And if you have a local pagan moot, they are generally really welcoming to newbies, and don't think any question is stupid.

Westray · 18/06/2017 09:15

I work alone a hedgewitch.

I have been part of a coven in the past but I prefer to work alone.
I'm loving this warm weather as we prepare for solstice.

Knit1Purl1K2tog · 18/06/2017 14:43

It's something I came across quite by chance, and I started reading more from curiosity. A lot of it resonates with me.

I'd love to join a local moot, but as I have young children, and my partner is fairly against the idea, I don't think I'll be able to goSad I've ordered a book on solitary practice. I guess the only drawback is that it I won't get a sense of community in the same way.

Elphame · 18/06/2017 15:08

What book did you order? There are some excellent solitary wicca ones and loads of appallingly dreadful ones !

BroomstickOfLove · 18/06/2017 15:12

If you have young kids, this book is pretty good. Although it's about raising kids within a witchy household, it's also useful even if you don't want to involve the children directly, with parent-friendly ways of celebrating the wheel of the year, and low-key ways of incorporating witchcraft into your life.

It's from a particular witchcraft tradition called Reclaiming which originated in the San Francisco Bay Area and is quite heavily influenced by feminism and environmental and LGBTQ * activism, so if you are more interested in traditional English stuff, it might not be your cup of tea, but I found it really useful when my kids were small.

It might be worth contacting the local pagan group in case of family-friendly picnics etc.

Other places which tend to be good if you are interested in dipping your toe into the water are circle dance groups who often meet up in church halls etc to do simple dances for pagan festivals, and some Unitarian churches have pagan or paganish groups.

Knit1Purl1K2tog · 18/06/2017 21:36

Thanks for your replies. The one I've ordered is 'Wicca: a guide for the solitary practitioner' by Scott Cunningham. I'll check the other suggestions out.

Elphame · 18/06/2017 23:43

That one is not bad - Cunningham is a bit dated (it was written in the 70s) and he's a bit unbalanced with a heavy emphasis on "the light".

My local pagan moot has a pagan parents group - it might be worth asking. Ours does child friendly activities during the day.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/06/2017 00:13

I think I liked Rae Beth best out of those writers who do introductory guides. But there are probably some good new people, too.

Elphame · 19/06/2017 08:51

This is a nice site - most of the beginner books are quite "fluffy". This cuts through the candyfloss and the vast amount of crap that appears in pagan/wiccan groups on the internet. It dispels many of the myths that have grown up through an original poor understanding of wicca which have now become accepted as "truth" online.

mrsappletreeman · 11/07/2017 12:23

Hi there, yes I am pagan and wiccan (gard/alex coven) with a lot of solitary practice and independent witchcraft before that. I am new to mumsnet though.
I also struggled to find intro books that didn't seem a bit fluffy and light so after years of practicing and building up to the point where I was leading group rituals & teaching, I ended up writing my own intro book with a bit more 'content'. Other than that, Rae Beth is very good, and anything by Doreen Valiente, Vivienne Crowley etc.
Are any of you bring up children as pagan? I brought my daughter to a lot of pagan things when she was younger but now she's finding it all far too boring.

DoubleNegativePanda · 29/09/2017 17:46

I know this is an old-ish thread but I thought I'd chime in as well. I'm a hedgewitch, as is my mom. Mostly a solitary worker, but then I'm pretty introverted in most aspects. Most people around here wouldn't really realize it but they still come to me for help when they don't feel well!

LittleBooInABox · 29/09/2017 19:00

I'm pagan!
A kitchen witch mostly, I love nature and the outdoors too. Something I've always felt drawn to. Makes sense to me.
Merry meet :)

Solly76 · 22/01/2018 10:49

Not Wiccan, eclectic pagan traditional witch. Also interested in Buddhism mainly for the meditation and philosophy rather than the religion side of it

MrsUnderwood · 23/01/2018 11:10

Yep. Not Wiccan but a witch. My practise is a very messy mix of lots of different traditions, with a lot of Terry Pratchett thrown in.

ladybird69 · 27/02/2018 01:56

Hi I don’t practice anything at the moment but I am drawn to pagan and Buddhism and Quaker beliefs! But I really don’t know where to start. I like peaceful and compassion and nature aspects of our world. Any advice would be gratefully received Flowers

speakout · 27/02/2018 21:53

Hi, I am a witch, not a Wiccan though.

HippyChickMama · 27/02/2018 22:21

I'm pagan but not strictly Wiccan. I don't involve my dc in my beliefs as such but we talk about the Sabbats and celebrate them in our own way.
