What about the beautiful words of the Russian orthodox kontakion - prayer for the dead or departed? Might that be what you're thinking of, particularly the last couple of lines?

Is it Psalm 137 - how can we sing the song of the Lord in a foreign land?

Negative or positive ( as in,cos of God we can sing whatever happens...)
As if negative it's making me think of Psalm 137

Hmm. I've been googling the Mat Redman song. 'Though I walk in the desert place, blessed be your name.' Can't track down the specific scripture though.

I think I read it a while ago in Nadia Bolz Weber and wasn't sure how paraphrased it was -

I think it's a mixture of things. Job, chronicles, psalms...
That psalm you quoted reminds me of another modern song- that verse, followed by a chorus of 'oh no you never let go' 'I will fear no evil, for my God is with me, who then shall I fear?'

I really must read more psalms and sing fewer songs...
