Praying for someone else

I have been meditating more recently and sending love to someone who i think is in a difficult situation, ive also been asking god to guide this person and give them strength and courage, i feel very strongly and really hope that god is listening to my prayers. My beliefs are that we are all here as one although on different paths and i really want to help this person. I usually pray for myself and my family and i feel like god has listened in the past. Do you think sending love and prayers to someone else will make much of a difference? What i mean is, do many of you believe god passes on these prayers or do you believe people can feel things like strength and love vibrationally?

Do you know if the person themselves has a faith? Because to me, that makes a difference. I'm an atheist and have no faith, no belief, and I would think that someone doing that for me was wasting their time, and I have other friends who would be offended, and yet others who would like it.

The person i am talking about does meditate but not sure of any belief system they have

Continue to pray. I am atheist but my DD2 has been seriously ill in hospital (and is still in hospital). She is slowly recovering. I have many friends with faith and through them DD2 is on the prayer list at one pre-school, one primary school and 3 churches.

I gives me strength to know so many people care enough for DD2 to want her restored to health.

@fortifiedwithtea. I feel it might just help to send good wishes and hope etc to people in this way even if you arent able to physically help them irl, and good luck with your dd also x

I am an agnostic, but felt very touched and supported when an acquaintance of mine who is a Muslim said she would pray for me at a time when I was seriously ill. I think it's a lovely thing to do.

Tiredbutnotyetretired · 01/05/2017 10:40

@Asmoto, yes that is lovely, and i would like to think that someone is listening to our prayers.
I believe that (even non believers) we are all connected through 'source' energy and all come from one divine being, although i dont believe that god is a man on a throne in the clouds as i was told to believe being brought up in a catholic school, i do believe there is something bigger than us. So i dont really know what i would define myself as, and i dont particularly want to define myself to one belief as i am open minded about everybody's beliefs. I just think that vibrational energy is all linked in with the higher source or the creator and i pray that my prayers send through in this way iykwim x

I think praying for others is a hugely important part of my faith. I often pray for unbelievers, and sometimes tell them and sometimes don't, depending on whether I think telling them will be helpful to them or not.

I believe there's literally nothing we can't pray about. God is our loving father, and He wants to hear from us, His children.

I couldn't live without daily prayer and conversation with God. So yes, I think it's lovely that you want to pray for someone else in need, regardless of their own beliefs. God will definitely listen to your prayers. x

@Teaforever Im trying to get into the habbit of praying every day, although most days i just say 'thank you' aloud. I find that having my faith in god has helped me immensely these last few years, and looking at my life i am grateful for the blessings amidst the stress i have been under lately x

Oh yes Tiredbutnotyetretired I know what you mean about blessings amidst the stress. I think God is intervening all the time for our good in ways we can't always see. There are many daily blessings, and often it's in adversity that we are closest to Him.

It sounds as though you do pray daily with your thankfulness, which is wonderful. We can talk to God about anything, and you really can't shock Him - He knows it all!

Sincere blessings for your continued walk with God x

Thanks @Teaforever xx

As you asked what I think - I think you are wasting your time , but if it makes you feel better that's fine. It is a nice thought but of no practical use.

' thoughts and prayers' - yes, all good, but if you can do anything real that would be better. Of course sometimes you can't.

I spent a lot of time in hospital with a sick child, a friend of mine who was religious got her whole church praying for him every week. I told her it made me feel very uncomfortable knowing complete strangers were talking to a person I didn't believe in about my sick child. She didn't stop the church doing it. Needless to say she want my friend for much longer.

Needless to say she wasn't my friend for much longer.
