Easter Tridium routine

I guess for some Easter kicked off with Palm Sunday & Matthews version of the Crucifixion, he's renowned for writing in a Jewish formal style, suggesting he has links with Judaism in his past. Was quite enjoying John.

Some of us kick it off on Thursday, with washing of feet and stripping of the altar. Saints Statues & Crucifixes have been covered too.

Others may do a witness walk Friday from 12PM. Cumulating in a service in open air, or at Church around 3PM.

Then others have the Easter Vigil after sunset on Saturday, where Baptismal rites are renewed and new people, usually adults, are welcomed into the Church.

Or for many it could be the Easter Sunday Service where we celebrate the resurrection.

What else do you do on top of worshiping (if you actively worship) do you have a special meal like Christmas? Do you give Easter Cards? Do you send Eggs or other presents.

Got cross buns have been about quite a while. Any secrets to the shop with the yummiest bun? I saw chocolate ones the other day, plus some near on burnt ones with wonky crosses. Shock

Whatever you do whether it's Daily Reflection or worship on certain days, hope you all have an amazing week.

I'll try and post some reflections.

I love holy week too. I often can't get to a lot due to illness so it's extra lovely when I can. I made the good Friday reflection today which was beautiful. Planning to be at Easter Sunday morning (probably not the dawn service) which is full of joy. My favourite service of the year :)

I'm a lot lower down the candle than many of you but love that there is so much variety so we can all appreciate and worship in a way we find meaningful.

Candlelight, that's wonderful. I bet it will be brilliant. Smile

Edd, I know it's all bittersweet. I am praying that the services you go to will be really meaningful for you and you'll be hugely blessed.

We'll be doing an Easter egg hunt to despite the dc being teens, there would be horror if it was not done Grin

Love easter. Smile

I'm officially shattered. In the past 24 hours I've led 4 services and been up to the cathedral for the chrism mass where a good number of the clergy turn out for a service of recommitment. Tomorrow is a quiet day with just a sermon for Easter Sunday to write then three services n Sunday and then sleeeeppp.

Blessed Easter to you all.

EddSimcox · 14/04/2017 21:42

Thanks MHD. I ended up having to miss the services yesterday and today, but I found a connection to Jesus in other ways today... and I am looking forward to the vigil tomorrow night and to the big service on Sunday. Smile

Madhairday · 14/04/2017 21:48

That's lovely, Edd. It's good to remember Jesus is always close to us, in church or not. I pray the vigil and Easter Sunday services will be a blessing Flowers

Sounds exhausting, Greenheart - just like my dh who is looking shattered. It's his birthday tomorrow though and he's actually got the day off after working madly long days all week Smile

Lissette · 14/04/2017 21:58

MHD Hope you are feeling a bit better. Glad you are getting to an Easter Service Edd.

Low key Easter here.

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 07:02

My sister and her kids have just finished a day of solemn mourning yesterday. The kids have worn all black, dresses, hairbands and stockings. The day has been spent at church and quiet contemplation.
Fish for dinner and no music, only prayers.

Very sad.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 15/04/2017 08:44

Wow that is extreme. I've been a Christian for all my adult life an not encountered anything like this. But then if a group is super conservative they won't be mixing with other Christians. Which denomination is your family involved in skerrywind?

Madhairday · 15/04/2017 10:30

I've never come across anything like this either and know hundreds of Christians Confused but I guess like Greenheart says they must be in some kind of conservative group. Is this the same family who say santa is evil? Sad how do the children cope - do they go along with it all happily or do you think they struggle? (Sorry, I am genuinely interested as so far outside my experience) Flowers

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 11:27

They are baptists.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 15/04/2017 13:54

In the U.K.?

In the last parish there were two baptist churches. One was conservative (no women in leadership for example) but very engaged in the local community and with really good music. Then there was another that was so Conservative that they didn't ever speak to the other conservative baptists possibly because the later did lots of community and ecumenical stuff. Shame really.

So your family experience is unusual and all Christians are not like them.

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 13:54

No - not in the UK.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 15/04/2017 15:19

So a wild guess would be USA Bible Belt or Australia as very conservative Protestantism has gone from the US over to Oz.

If so that is tough one. My experience is that only their part of their denomination are the elect and saved which must make for some interesting family get togethers.

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 15:35

Certainly makes for a lot of family argument.
Baptist school, baptist friends, no non christian interaction.

Two ( now adult children) one calls her mother an abuser for raising her this way. Other daughter continues in the faith, also raising her own children in the same faith.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/04/2017 15:42

That must be really hard, Skerry. Is it just your sister and her children, or other family members, too?

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 16:13

Out mother is now a convert/saved/born again after an extended trip to visit.
I have no other family.

Madhairday · 15/04/2017 16:48

That must be hard for you, skerry. It's strange that they have no interaction with people who do not believe. Sad I'm sorry that you have had this experience and her children too.

It's nothing like the faith I hold to but I realise that is cold comfort.

skerrywind · 15/04/2017 17:06

Thank you madhair- but my sister knows that she is right. Unwavering in her faith. No compromise. And her flavour of christianity ( as much as I view it in a negative view) is as valid as any other christian's view.
She holds god dearer than people.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 16/04/2017 09:15

Happy Easter all!

Dawn service done - great fire and much acclamation. Now for the main Eucharist celebration and a quitter event at the chapel this afternoon.

However you celebrate I hope your Easter Sunday is a good one.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/04/2017 14:18

Happy Easter!

Hope it all went well last night, candle

EddSimcox · 16/04/2017 17:33

I like the idea of a quitter event greenheart ;)

skerrywind · 16/04/2017 17:38

greenheart- the idea of human sacrifice? You happy with that?

Madhairday · 16/04/2017 17:46

Lol at the quitter event. I have quitted not eating chocolate today Grin

Hope you're all having a blessed Easter day. I love this day. So full of joy :)

Hope last night was good, candle.

Skerry, it's about God's self sacrifice for his beloved children. The joy is in the victory over death, the glory of hope. It's about fullness of life and joy unspeakable.

Candlelightnewf · 16/04/2017 17:51

Hello all. Thanks for all your kind wishes. The service last night was really lovely (and very long).
I'm feeling pretty happy this morning!
Hope you're all having a super, joy filled Easter weekend.

EddSimcox · 16/04/2017 18:51

Loved our quiet vigil service last night. And felt so joyful at the big service this morning (biggest congregation ever!) singing and shouting Allelulia. We had a trumpet which was really awesome too. And I've had a nice day with the family - big roast lunch, easter egg hunt. But feeling deflated now. DP has struggled with the day for predictable reasons, DM isn't having a good day either, and I'm completely exhausted.

candle very glad it all went well. We had two baptisms this morning, which were great too (also made for quite a long service given all the extra Easter liturgy too!)

BroomstickOfLove · 16/04/2017 19:02

I couldn't make it to the vigil last night, as the children wanted to stay up late with DP to watch Doctor Who, and family harmony required me to join in. Doctor Who was pretty good though Smile

The service this morning was lovely, with added excitement from a flaming thurible. I'm feeling very sleepy after getting up in time to put the lamb in the oven at 6:30am and then eating vast quantities of food this afternoon.
