A new Christian prayer thread for summer...

Tuo · 22/06/2016 01:38

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

abbsismyhero - for help with her anxiety and relationship with an abusive ex.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for health and happiness for her and her family.

Aphie - for her fiancé's family following the sudden death of his uncle, and for her anxiety.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum.

Bluetinkerbell - five years on from the loss of her baby DD, Sterre.

Cocoa button - for issues around the safety of her DS2.

Dontbesilly - for strength as she grieves the loss of her dad, for her mum and the rest of her family, for her DD's school issues, and for Dont's own health.

drspouse - for full recovery from a recent chest infection and for happiness and a warm welcome in her new church.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere, and for her to find peace and joy in her life following the loss of her beloved Bob.

EdithSimcox - for her to find joy and fulfilment in her faith and understanding and support from her DP.

ethelb - for her MIL who has blood clots in her leg and suspected sarcoma, and for all who love and care for her.

FaithLoveandHope - for her anxiety and depression to lift and for her to be able to avoid falling into despair and self-harm, and for her relationship with her DSD.

greyscalealmond - for her depression to be alleviated and for family relationships.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL and for a recently-bereaved friend.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her friend's pregnancy.

LarrytheCucumber - for family members involved in fostering and adoption, for the DC involved, and for their birth parents and all involved in their ongoing care.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH and for her DD's friend, J, who is in a coma after a seizure.

LittleBootsTheBabe - for healing and happiness for an acquaintance of hers.

MadHairDay - for her health, and for her whole family at a time of change and uncertainty.

Malefriendproblem - for her relationship with an old friend which has turned sour, and for her DD who suffers from anxiety.

Newmamatobe - for her new life with her baby DD and free of alcohol.

niminypiminy - who will be ordained very soon.

passportmess - for her friend who has schleroderma.

Paulat2112 - for friends who are experiencing relationship difficulties.

PositiveAttitude - for her whole family, but especially her DD1 who has been depressed, her pregnant DD2, her mum and dad, her DH and his work. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, for her studies, and for a potential house-move.

QoF - for her relationship with her DH.

SESthebrave - for all who are grieving over the loss of a friend from church, for work-related decision-making, and for the friend who was Best Man at her wedding whose relationship has broken down following his wife's infidelity.

SouthernLassie - for her relationship with a colleague.

sweetandsour - for her auntie who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for her mum and all who love and care for her auntie.

Teallove - for her to feel free to move on following the breakdown of a relationship.

Trazzletoes - for her 6-year-old DS who has previously had cancer and who is now unwell again - praying for a swift (and hopefully reassuring) diagnosis and for Trazzletoes and all who love him at this worrying time.

Tweebee - for her DS to settle at nursery.

And also thinking of friends who haven't visited for a while, who who pop in only occasionally, including ALittleFaith, Anjelica27, Kaykat, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, legohurtswhenyoustandonit, Pandora97, shortscotty, weegiemum and others.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

This prayer was posted by Edith on the old thread, and I really like it and would like it to stand for what this new thread is all about:

All that we are, Lord,
we place into your hands.
All that we do, Lord,
we place into your hands.

Everything we work for,
we place into your hands.
Everything we hope for,
we place into your hands.

The troubles that weary us,
we place into your hands.
Thoughts that disturb us,
we place into your hands.

Each that we pray for,
we place into your hands.
Each that we care for,
we place into your hands. Amen

Hope Barefootcook made it back. I'm not a good flyer but somehow managed to fly home.

How did you manage to burn the back of your neck Bes?!

passportmess · 03/08/2016 22:06

Oh - sunburn!!

barefootcook · 04/08/2016 08:38

Yes I did! It was a long journey with several delays but all flights were smooth and I was able to relax a bit towards the end. Thanks for thinking of me.

passportmess · 04/08/2016 11:24

Glad all flights were smooth Barefootcook. I had a very nervous passenger beside me on the way out. She was constantly kissing her rosary beads and then began to drink heavily. I know it was her way of coping as best that she could but I became more nervous. Luckily on the way back we had a bigger plane so I was more relaxed. I'm not used to flying and did think about getting the train back as I was still in the UK but glad I didn't give in to my fears. However the last two days of the holiday were consumed by stress. I'm going to have to address anxiety issues more generally.

Mind you on the way to the airport I saw a woman driving on the motorway with a child (under 3) in the front seat without a child car seat. The child was wearing an adult seatbelt (which would have been completely inadequate in an accident) but wasn't staying put so the driver had one hand on her and the other on the steering wheel. Statistically that journey for mother and child was much more dangerous than the flight I was about to take. I couldn't get a good look at the registration number to report but I hope they made it to their destination safely.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/08/2016 13:38

glad you got home safely. how is your mum (or was it mil?) and her hip?

I have made progress but there is a long way to go yet with tidying and clearing up for the heating engineer.

don't mind flying at all.. it is the airport that stresses me out,.

passportmess · 04/08/2016 13:51

I can't imagine what the airport must be like for someone with autism especially children. I found the airport really stressful - both airports were being updated structurally so there were a lot of temporary sites. Security was particularly fraught.

Glad you have made progress Bes. All worth it in the end.

Madhairday · 04/08/2016 15:12

Glad the flights were ok in the end, Barefoot.

BES, ouchy at sunburn, glad you're making some progress. Joining you today as starting to tidy out DCs room for the move. DSs room is an utter pit, like nothing on earth. We are having some fun pulling all his crap out of every cupboard and shelf in the room and chucking a load away. He still wants to hold on to too much of it though. aaargggh. Hope you manage to get some more done.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/08/2016 15:21

good luck with that MHD

I can formally announce that my room has achieved the magnificent state of cluttered

shelves and cupboards are stuffed with stuff dangling off and the space under the stupidly places dreassing table has been stuffed. but the floor is generally clear. and hoovered.

taking a break to get the kids lunch. (they have had two snacks since breakfast) and recover before tackling the worst of the bathroom, hall and kitchen and stairs.

the living room has been lost. the children have played and scattered.

Orchidflower1 · 04/08/2016 15:23

Glad travels were safe- had be praying for all x

Dutchoma · 04/08/2016 17:35

Very good news Barefootcook, thanks for the update.
Well done BES
I love flying and don't even mind airports, not now that I can have my knitting with me.
I have just heard that my friend, who was planning to just break her journey from Liverpool to Ipswich and back at my house, is now coming just for this whole weekend, leaving on Tuesday and then going straight home, which is much nicer for me.

Madhairday · 04/08/2016 17:44

Oh how lovely Oma, have a wonderful time with your friend Flowers

BlackeyedSusan · 04/08/2016 18:27

passportmess · 05/08/2016 10:54

I know everyone knows the Serenity prayer but I'm in need of serenity just now and it might be useful for others this morning.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen

fakenamefornow · 05/08/2016 10:58

Really trivial, sorry. Please pray that passport arrives next week otherwise no holiday that we've been looking forward to for ages. It's a really special holiday and we'll probably never be able to do it again.

Thanks

passportmess · 05/08/2016 11:11

Fakename I feel your pain having been embroiled with passport difficulties before ( see user name Grin). Praying for a speedy outcome and a good holiday for you.

Dutchoma · 05/08/2016 11:31

That is a heartfelt prayer for passports, Fakename. There are still a couple missing from our group.
Praying for serenity also. I'm such a. perfectionist and there is sooo much that COULD go wrong with the holiday, praying for serenity would be a jolly good thing to do.
Praying dustbusting vibes for BES and for her serenity too.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/08/2016 12:25

prayers for the passports arriving. not trivial. stressful .

hall done. inclucing dismantling the dyson to remove the blockage. most of the straw ds ot hold of has been dealt with now. I am sure bits will keep turning up for ages yet though.

bathroom still dusty, stopped to feed children and me. need to pick up the rubbish then hoover the worst.

kitchen will still be messy but may chuck the worst of the bags nearer to the freezer.

toilet lid/seat broken at the join. need a new one. arse.

fakenamefornow · 05/08/2016 13:37
