I've changed my mind (yet again!) about the lovely Mr Dawkins

Hee hee! the female prerogative, eh? To change one's mind as and when the fancy takes one!

No, seriously, I have changed my mind re. Mr Dawkins, even tho I still disagree with all his God Delusion malarkey and still have no idea of any of the science bits. What I am starting to think is that for the general, non-scientific poluation out there, he's actually very useful at stimluating debate about the nature of God, the claims of christianity, the reasons why people hold on to faith even tho it undoubtedly has caused many divisions and problems in the world...

...and therefore from my POV as a christian he's a Good Thing! He's caused many vague believers to clarify their faith and to understand it all the better. He's forced manyt people to take their stand, either side of the debate. IMO, the enemy of faith is not unbelief, it's indifference. As long as people are questioning, there will be answers out there. It's when we stop caring either way that we become immune to the pull of God.

What do you think? (Christians, or not - or people of other religions)? I'm just off to bed soon tho, so I'll check back later.

But I may have changed my mind again by then!

I agree completely with Dawkins about God and yes you are right he has stimulated debate. Having also listened to him the representation of him as a foaming at the mouth ranter is really wrong. He always maintains that there is no definate scientific proof either way but the balance of probability leads him to say there is no God.

Like all good scientists he is waiting to have his theory proved some day!

I am a big fan and I think the God delusion book is very well written and logical and interesting. I have heard him being accused of being a fundamentalist and I think he argues very well why this is not so. Maybe he doesn't give enough credit to the liberal religious people out there but he does mention them in the book.

I don't agree with his conclusions, quite, but I do respect them and I like what he says about the awe he feels for the wonders of the universe.

I'm a fundaMENTAList Christian , and I think he's an interesting character. Anyone and anything which gets people to question and think about why they believe what they believe, be they atheist or theist, is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Life is way too short to sleepwalk through it.
