I have this book (which is now out of print) and it is full of ideas for kids

If anyone is interested I could give more info about some of the activity ideas such as,
Global awareness
The healing fairies - self mastery from anger, nightmares etc..

Sounds good. What is the book called?

papillon · 27/05/2004 12:52

Creative visualization with Children by Jennifer Day

She is a stress management consultant, mother, choreographer. I think she is English as she used to run workshops in the UK but lives in Hawaii these days

They have it on amazon but it is a long delay. What do you think of the book? What ages is it aimed at?

melsy · 27/05/2004 13:08

That sounds really interesting for the future paps. Might see if theres anything online about it anywere.

papillon · 27/05/2004 13:11

Oh, a friend tried to get it and said it is out of print... so that is good it is still around.

The book looks really great. I bought it almost a year ago and lent it too a friend... had to pry it back off her she loved it so much.. (think she was using the visualisations herself!)

She says about the age of two you can start some of the visualisations...

papillom can you let me know about healing fairies and any that deal with gainig confidence

papillon · 28/05/2004 10:06

The healing fairy visualisation follows after meditation

It is quite long to write out the whole visualisation process, so I will abreviate abit, it is very cute!!

See before u your path in nature. You walk along it and pass your Trouble Tree. See if you have any troubles to hang up today. Then continue along your path until you come to your garden gate. (visualise beautiful gate, walk through it and pause to look it as it closes behind you) As you walk away from the gate you notice a rustling sound behind you. You turn around.. and see several tiny heartshaped faces peering out from between the flowers on your gate. As you look closer you see that the faces belong to little fairies gradually emerging from behind the flowers and leaves. (about 10) They are all carrying little feather dusters and have warm, welcoming smiles on their faces. They sing
Let us show you what we can do
To help you if you´re feeling blue.

Then they take your hand and lead you through the garden..... pause....
they take you to a small secluded beach. Fairies make you comfortable and busy themselves around you with their dusters.
Wherever it is that you´re not full of zeal
We´ll bring in our dusters and help you to heal.

Stay with the fairies as long as the child is able then thank them and know that they will always be there if you need them.. just like the garden is...

Good to illness or normal aches and pains of growing up...
Also good for visits to doctor or dentist

or just generally helps child to relax and help handle life more calmly

will look for confidence ones as well

Am very interested in this paps and love the fairy visualisation!

Dread to think what my sons would make of this, papillon. They were not impressed by my glittery play dough today. They said that the power rangers weren't keen on glittery play dough and they were therefore not keen... Has anyone actually tried creativevisualisation with their kids? Was it a success? Don't get me wrong- I think my kids are creative. It's just that their creations of choice don't gel with my own. They must be cynical before their time, I guess.

papillon · 31/05/2004 13:08

I have not tried visualisations with dd she is only 7 months old.

But I will be giving it a good go when she is able to comprehend more about life. I have been introducing her to massage slowly and now that she is more mobile I can really see she enjoys it.

I think that is what visualisation would be like to as a child.. Take is slowly.. don´t get them prancing down the fairy lane (especially if they are boys!) and out the gate too fast. The visualisation below follows on from a child creating their own mental garden first.
Perhaps ScummyMummy your boys just need to visualise wot works for them - which I think is the case for every individual, young or old.

The book has another type of visualisation that might suit them more and can be adapted to their interests, its for nightmares and contains monsters or wotever is frightening! Power ranger monsters meditation!!

Nightmares

It is recommended to do the visualisation asap after the nightmare. If your child is old enough to do it alone the book recommends doing it just before bedtime.

Kinow that you are now in a safe place - quiet peaceful and loving which fills up your heart.
Turn and slowly look at the monster (or whatever is troubling the child) when you feel ready to and then face it.
It is quite safe - because you are there.. or you are awake - and you are in charge!
Stretch both arms out towards the monster and see the monster getting smaller and smaller. Keep reaching towards it until it becomes small enough to fit in your palm.
Now you can befriend it.. play with it.. throw it out the window.. down the loo!
