ds obsessed by death and where babies come from - book suggestions from a christian perspective needed

DS is 4.25, and very questioning. He's just gone into the stage of obsessing a little about death (and sex, more on that in a minute) - basically worrying that I. or his dad, or other family members will die and that he will miss them.

I'm ok with talking to him about what happens after death (the idea of the sock from a fellow mner really helped there), but as he really likes books, I think a book would really help.

I'd really like it to stop as my dad had a series of heart attacks earlier this week, and has been very ill - I'm finding it really difficult emotionally myself, and need the help to try and get him out of the obsessing loop (he's worried that he might not see his Grandad again ...)

Also, he's asking lots of questions about where he came from (my tummy is the answer I gave), and then how he got into my tummy (he thought at first that I'd eaten him!) I've told him that daddy put him there with a bit of help from God ... anybody got any book suggestions for the 'where do babies come from?' question?

Thanks all,

ejt

p.s. my new year's resolution was to not lurk so often on mn - but to post!)

Goodbye Mog - I think Mog watches over the new kitten that the family get. Certainly has the idea of an afterlife.

Mummy Laid an Egg is supposed to be good but not specifically Christian. We read lots of books about creation and different people that make the point that God makes everything. HTH a bit.

thanks for that - I'll have a look for them ...

hey my dd is the same age and totally obsessing about death too!

I would welcome a good book too but from a non-religious perspective if poss

Who Made Me by Nick Butterworth and Mike Inkpen is very good. Gives similar info to Mummy laid an egg but without spacehoppers!

Likewise What happens when we die will probably cover what you're looking for. It is a fairly small book, and you'd need to read it together. Certainly I've read it with my 3.8yo so is fine for the age range. Haven't read the first book to him (but he hasn't shown any interest yet - it was bought for my older child).

Sorry - my response was to ejt1764, as both the books are Christian.

CD - that is a harder request as I guess the question is what do you want to teach your child happens after death? It boils down to some belief system. We have the book I've recommended so I'll see if I can find it and summarise.

countessdracula - there's a good link here for books dealing with death - especially the book list one - bear with me, I have never done a link before!
