Christian Prayer Thread. Back to school and into Autumn

Dutchoma · 28/08/2015 17:38

As we were nearly at 1000 posts and TUO is both very busy and away today, I thought I might have a go at setting up a new thread.
I have looked back over nearly four months of prayers, of sharing, of support, of gladness and sadness and so much more. I think there are about 50 different people on the thread, some are there from beginning to end, some come in, are here for a few days and then don’t post any more.
Both are valuable, all are welcome, we share with you in anxiety and depression, in worry for others, but also in prayers answered, wonderful healing, good exam results and so much more.
But we also realise that life moves on, that the prayer thread was helpful for a while and is not so relevant now. Never be afraid to come back, we all need prayer and support.

So, like TUO I shall pick out a few names for the new thread, but leave behind some that have not posted for a while, hoping that they will come back and update us.
Specially thinking of: Anjelica27; I know how much this thread has helped you. Bsshbosh and wondering how she is now.

Whoagirrrrl, after her operation. Dizzydaffodil, Pandora37 and PeterSpots .

There are so many more names to remember: Alittleroom, Bluetinkerbell, DontstepontheMomeraths, Howtoapproachthis and several more.

And then the ones that are quite recent like:
ALittleFaith, Amberlight; BlackEyedSusan, Dontbesilly; EdithSimcox; FaithLoveandHope, Kaykat, Lightnessofbeing; MadHairDay; PositiveAttitude; QuestionofFaith; QuietIsland2; SESthebrave; TUO; Weegiemum; ZipadiSoozi

And if I have omitted any one, be assured that God never forgets and holds you fast in His love and mercy.

Be careful what you pray for... Although I bet you didn't pray for sharp teeth.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 07/12/2015 14:45

I guess sharp teeth come as standard issue.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 07/12/2015 19:17

Oh yes, I know what you mean about getting caught up in all the commercialism of Christmas. And feeling the pressure to have the "perfect" family Christmas.

Tuo · 07/12/2015 20:15

((Oma))) [couldn't really care less whether hugs are 'allowed' on MN or not - I reserve the right to hug who I like when I like...]

This is a hard time of year to be grieving, but I know what amazing support the hospice gave you and Bob, and for that I am thankful. Praying for you, and for QI's colleague.

Another prayer for Advent:

God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time. Amen

Dutchoma · 07/12/2015 20:18

I don't care whether (((hugs))) are allowed on MN or not (who says anyway?) I will take all the hugs I can get, real or virtual, thank you very much

hallelujah the costume is finished... wonky tacked rather than sewn but better than the old shirt she has now.

bit of old sheet.

ScouseQueen · 08/12/2015 12:32

Hi all, good and bad news Confused ended up in hospital yesterday after going to see my GP who said I really needed to be attended to urgently - the good news is that after a night of fluids for being severely dehydrated, I feel quite a lot better. They still need to do some tests but hoping I can go home in the next few days.

Dutchoma · 08/12/2015 12:45

Very glad you got some attention when you needed it most Scousequeen. I hope you very soon feel completely healed and ready to go home.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 08/12/2015 14:11

get well soon, scouse

Dontbesilly · 08/12/2015 18:06

Get well soon scousequeen. Hoping your home feeling much better asap Flowers

Quiet I will certainly be praying for your colleague and friend and her husband.

Oma - have a big squidgy hug from me too, if that's OK with you. You must really, really miss your lovely Bob. So hugs and Flowers and Brew and Cake from me and a big hug too. X

Dad went back to the hospital today. The next step is a lengthy and in depth preoperative assessment and then surgery. But.....there is always a but.....he will be opened up in theatre and a sample of adrenal gland taken. Someone will run with it to pathology for sampling and if it's ok, they proceed with the operation and if it's not ok, they close him back up and that's it. He's bad umpteen tests on the adrenal gland and all look favourable so it's just super caution by the hospital. However I am really, really scared like day one when I found out he had cancer. Surely they wouldn't let him get onto the table if they weren't sure it's almost ok to operate.....would they? I honestly think that if they operated and closed him up without doing anything else it would destroy him. He's very tearful in a man sort of way, trying to hide it etc. He's frightened for sure. I just pray with everything I have that God can hear me and please grant us the miracle of the operation and a little longer for him to live. I can only pray for that. But praying is the most powerful thing I can do for him so that's what I will do and keep on doing.

Anyway sorry to be a downer. Oh Oma I couldn't access the link to the booklet that you shared. I know quiet found it so I will keep trying but could you or quiet point me in the right direction to the booklet online as I could do with a bit of calming reading. Totally understand if either of you are busy. Also going to listen to the music you mentioned too quiet as that sounds like a great way to sort out my mood.

Hoping everyone else is OK x

Dutchoma · 08/12/2015 19:18

Dont I'm sorry but I can't see the Advent boolet either. The link I provided doesn't work, HolyBibleMosaic give the outline, but not (so far) the readings. Maybe QuietIsland has more of a clue, sorry.
I'm extraordinarily tired, it just took me two hours to get home on the bus - it's a 13 minute journey on a bus that normally goes every 20 minutes. Not sure what is going on the whole town seems to be gridlocked.

OP posts:
QuietIsland2 · 08/12/2015 19:41

Don't and Dutchoma - I think this is it. It doesn't have a red cover but is published by Tyndale and is the Holy Mosaic Bible Devotions for Advent. I'll give the webpage at Tyndale for it Dont but you can buy it on Amazon Uk too for about £3 all in (postage included etc)

www.tyndale.com/Devotions-for-Advent/9781414335780#.VmcxqNKLRko

www.amazon.co.uk/DEVOTIONS-ADVENT-Holy-Bible/dp/1414335784/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449603313&sr=8-1&keywords=mosaic+bible+advent

Don't know if I can put up links like this on Mumsnet.

QuietIsland2 · 08/12/2015 19:53

ScouseQueen so glad you got further help and that you are now on the mend. I hope you are discharged from hospital soon. x

Dutchoma further (((hugs))) Thank you for pointing out the Holy Mosaic bible - I think I might buy either it or some of the devotions for lent/advent.

Don't it sounds like procedure on the hospital's part and if the initial tests are good I would be hopeful that they won't find anything. It is, without doubt, an incredibly stressful time for you and your family. Your poor Dad. I'll pray hard for a good outcome.

My colleague's husband has gone to hospital for treatment to fight an infection but I'm hopeful that they'll get that and the pain under control.

Bes - well done on getting every thing done and filleting the gruffalo salmon

hello to everyone else

Dontbesilly · 08/12/2015 20:16

Thank you Quiet. I will have a good look at this. I hope that it doesn't break mn rules. I will take the blame as I did ask you for the details if it's not allowed.

Hoping your friends husband can get really good treatment for the infection and the pain under control and hoping that they can both have a peaceful and wonderful Christmas together.

Two hours on a bus doing a short journey sounds tedious Oma. You could have walked faster than the bus went. Glad you are safely home though.

Bes have your fingers recovered from the ----piranha salmon you gutted earlier and thanks outfit you made? How did the homework deadline go, did you get any joy from the school?

Dontbesilly · 08/12/2015 20:19

Thanks outfit was supposed to be twankys outfit. Autocorrect possibly saved me from a sweary typo lol Grin

QuietIsland2 · 08/12/2015 20:38

Dont - you're not remotely responsible! I'm the one pressing send! Xmas Grin

I think it probably is okay to post links to Amazon anyway.

QuietIsland2 · 08/12/2015 20:41

The sentence about posting links on Mumsnet came out more baldly than I intended. I think I was thinking to myself but typed it out instead!! I didn't mind posting the links.

Tuo · 08/12/2015 22:15

Oh Don't, how stressful. It definitely sounds as if they are just being ultra-cautious and preparing you for all eventualities. Praying for peace of mind for you and your dad, and for a sense of God being with you, even through all these hard times.

Also praying for QI's friend and her DH and hoping his infection can be treated successfully and swiftly.

Scouse - it sounds as if you're in the best place for now. Prayers for a swift recovery and for you to be well in time for Christmas.

Continuing to pray for Oma, for BES, for MHD, for PA and for all who visit this thread, even if they don't post. Also praying for all affected by the floods in the North West.

In our weakness, O Lord, be our strength. In our sinfulness, be to us pardoning love. In our need, be our all-sufficient grace. In our anxiety, be to us both stillness and rest and at all times be to us the fullness of blessing; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879)

BlackeyedSusan · 08/12/2015 22:18

head teacher sympathetic, teacher still upsetting the children by demanding homework or big trouble tomorrow. I am not impressed. she has come out of school on the point of tears.

finger not as sore as when I have done other daft things to it. the worst one was a minute cut (magnifying glass sort) punching way above its weight in that it was at the point I needed to exert pressure to turn the key in the lock. why ffs?

BlackeyedSusan · 08/12/2015 22:20

posted too soon.

praying don't. it is a terribly long wait. hoping you can manage it with calmness.

Dontbesilly · 09/12/2015 08:17

Thanks everyone for your very kind and calming words which were as always just what I needed. I have a doctor sibling who can be a bit doom and gloom, not intentionally, it's just the job and the fact it's family I suppose. I relayed the details back relating to yesterday's meeting and was met with further questions and more ifs etc. Feeling better now today though.

Quiet we can sit in the naughty step together then, partners in crime lol, I asked you pressed send lol x.

Dontbesilly · 09/12/2015 08:19

Oh and Bes, your teacher sounds quite mean. Sounds quite unnecessary to upset children in that way. Poor children.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/12/2015 11:54

he was cross at another child yesterday as they were late. he shouted at a child who has specific difficulties for following instructions of their medical professional.

Dontbesilly · 09/12/2015 12:44

BES, that's shocking. Poor kids. He sounds better suited to working with senior school age kids but only possibly. Thing is kids always remember the good and bad teachers. My dh still remembers his year two teacher who hated boys and used to slap them round the head......He was even hit once. It's horrible.

Really hoping that the kids at the school can stay clear of him, he sounds delightful NOT. I hope enough parents speak up and get a change in the behaviour as it's unacceptable. Flowers

Dontbesilly · 09/12/2015 12:46

Just thought you might have found a use for the sharp salmon teeth.....If you happen to be following the teacher in a crowded corridor, it'd be awful if you accidentally caught his but with the salmon teeth.....It could happen Wink
