OP, as far as I remember from school and mass, there is no huge emphasis in Catholicism on the 2nd coming.

What has brought this to mind now?Smile

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2015 22:17

Oh, I have just remembered something "He will come again to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end".Blush

What specifically is frightening you OP?

Vivacia · 27/03/2015 05:42

Well those massive locusts, the size of horses, with human faces sent to torment us are pretty terrifying

cheapskatemum · 28/03/2015 18:24

Don't all Christians believe Christ will come again? I'm a Baptist and I do.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 29/03/2015 13:25

Yes - all Christians believe that that there will be a judgement. Some believe that the book of Revelation is a blow by blow account of how it will play out but this is a reading that tends to the more conservative end of the Christian spectrum.

The important point is that we are responsible for our actions.

cheapskatemum · 29/03/2015 22:15

Thanks thegreenheart I read a good piece of advice today, Vivacia: "Do your best and let God take care of the rest".

Theoldcauliflower · 29/03/2015 22:44

I'm so sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone other than catholic, I didn't mean that, I don't know much about all this. My mum is telling me if I don't start going to church and confession I'm in trouble, that's what I'm trying to say and that it obviously scares me abit! Sorry haven't been on Internet has been down x

I think cauliflower if this is what you believe then it's rational to be scared. It's scary stuff.

Vivacia · 30/03/2015 07:08

I think that's great advice Cheap for someone who believes in one of the gods.

DioneTheDiabolist · 30/03/2015 09:22

OP, what do you think? Do you want to go to church?

Housemum · 30/03/2015 10:34

The general idea is that no one knows when the second coming will be, our goal is to live our lives in the "right" way (lots of stuff in the Gospels about being watchful, being aware, parables about not knowing when He will knock at your door). As for what actually will happen, who knows? Yes, there will be an ending, and a judgement. All you can do is to be the best you can and trust that you are getting it right! (I'm a pretty crappy Catholic really - I sort of know what I mean!)

Theoldcauliflower · 30/03/2015 11:42

I think I would like to go yes, but I feel like my life is all over the place so how could I go when I'm like this.

People attending a church will be in all kinds of different places. Church isn't just for perfect people.

Housemum · 30/03/2015 12:12

You don't have to know everything to go - start off just sitting at the back if that's where you feel more at ease, watching and learning. You don't need to go up for a blessing/to receive Communion if that doesn't feel comfortable for you right now. I found that having had a break of many years, just that going and listening was what got me back on track, so to speak.
