Its my 38th birthday today & I have spent virtually all day outside in the open air.Was working outside this morning & took the dd's for a very long walk this afternoon. We collected conkers, acorns, leaves ect.I have a basket of squashes on my front doorstep & rings of chillies hanging up on either side of the door.

I love this time of year.

what are you 'supposed' to do at SAmhain?

I am going to Samhain celebrations on the High Street, great parade with battle between winter and summer thingy.

I like to let it rip at Beltane instead .

Missed beltane this year, although I do generally enjoy a bit of organised chaos!

Samhain I usually do at home, for some reason.

But yeah, Beltane is wild as it's meant to be!

I do a party with my mate and many children, but that isn't often on 31st... that I normally see in quietly - like a calm NYE.

Sooooooooooo looking forward to Yule this year though

Fire's a big part of it, for me, either a real one or candles.

It's cleansing, it's the stuff of life, etc.

Especially if I'm scrying.

The extra place at the table is because it is a traditional time to contact family spirits. You lay a place in case any decide to visit for the meal.

Ah yes. I see now. The thinning between our world and the spirit world.

It tends to be lots of reflection for me.

Considering tarot too... I very rarely touch my tarot cards (mainly because they scare me by being far too accurate ).

Reflection and am having a party for the children with silly stuff but will lay an extra place as my grandmother is usually around me when I need her. Also will lay in a fire tomorrow night and perhaps on samhain as well. Many mnay candles too.

Can someone recommend a site which explains what you are talking about, please (pref. including something child friendly)

TIA

SamhainWitch · 28/10/2006 22:31

Try this for starters .

I'll try to find something a bit more child orientated.

That's really interesting samhainwitch. Didn't realise the origins of the apples connection to hallowe'en.
