Does the Catholic Church do Christenings in Lent?

This might be a stupid question, but I need to arrange my baby's Christening. The priest said to contact him with some idea of dates, but afterwards I wondered whether Christenings are done during Lent. There probably isn't any reason why they wouldn't, but I didn't want to suggest a few dates and then be told they were not an option. I can't recall from previous years whether any babies were christened during Lent at our church or not

They shouldn't, it was on our mass sheet last night! Can't remember why, what the explanation was though, sorry!

No, we were told that was the one time they couldn't do it.

The date that we wanted for ds3 fell in Lent and we had to wait for Easter Sunday instead, although I'm not sure if that was due to our grumpy parish priest or a higher directive.

I think the explanation is because a baptism is a celebration and Lent is not a time for celebrations.

Most parishes will not baptise during Lent but of course if there is an emergency a baby will be baptised.

I never thought they did, but I've been to 2 christening in Lent in the past few years.

Usually weddings and baptisms are not done during Lent but the priest can exercise discretion if he thinks it necessary.

We are attending a Catholic baptism during lent. You can but ask.

Normally it is discouraged but it can be done - talk to your priest if it is important to you for any reason - but remember there will be no flowers etc in the church during Lent and it is a sombre season - my dd was born just before Lent, and our parish priest tried to encourage us to have a Lent baptism as dh's parents were visiting from overseas and had to return before Easter ... it was me - all hormonal and full of new-parent anxieties - who insisted on waiting till the Easter season. I have felt bad about it ever since ... although I am still not sure I could have coped with a Lent baptism.
