Confused by Baptism Certificate. Is this right???

I recently had my son christened and a couple of weeks later, as promised, the vicar posted through to me his Baptism certificate.
What I have received is an A5 laminated piece of peach coloured paper with my sons full name on it, date of Christening and the names of the 3 Godparents.
In all honesty I could have knocked this up myself on my laptop, importing clip art!!
There is nothing official about it whatsoever.

I was expecting something more akin to a marriage certificate: landscape piece of paper with columns containing all the relevent details and perhaps a formal church stamp, or at least an official signature. Iknow they certainly used to look like this as I have relative's certificates.

Is it possible to obtain such a copy? Or have they been completely done away with?

Any clarification gratefully received!
Many thanks Smile

Are you perhaps thinking of a birth certificate which is akin to a marriage certificate. I have never seen a baptism/christening certificate anything like that. Just nice looking certificates like you would get if you won an award or such like.

Though I admit my experience is with CofE, URC and such like. Don't know what Catholic churches etc. give out.

It's as good as you ar going to get. There is nothing legal or "official" about a baptism. It's not like a birth certificate.

There's no 'official' version - if your relatives have one that looks more official that's just because their church decided to make it look that way!

My 'proof of baptism' is a few words scrawled on the edge of my birth certificate!

What other "relevant details" are there? My DCs baptism certificates . . .hmm. Can't picture them. We have the candle, tho. [helpful] And every year on their baptism "anniversary" the church send a postcard to the kids, with a colourful Noah's Ark on it, which is lovely.

I definitely don't recall seeing my own baptism certificate ever.

Thanks for the replies.
My son was christened in the Church of England.
The previous baptism certifictes I have belonging to relatives are all very old, 1922 and older so the church obviously doesn't provide these now.
At least I know now!
Thank you Smile

My church gets blanks from the local christian bookshop. It is for your information/ to keep really. If for some reason (confirmation for eg) 'proof' is needed the church records (a book) can be checked.
