The last few month I have been questioning if Christianity is true. Always had a strong faith. Heart still believes but head is saying no. All the atrocities in the world. All the Christians being murdered around the world. If ever there was a time for Jesus to return or God to intervene now would be the time. Hundreds of Christians climbing up a hill fleeing death. I feel like if ever the time came for a divine miracle now would be it. I don't want to lose my faith but im beginning to become disillusioned. Any wise words gratefully received. Much thanks.

I think one reason why we find suffering so hard to accept is sometimes the way Christianity is 'sold' to us in the Western world. It is a nice fluffy sort of Christianity where life will get better and we wont want for anything and everyone will love us etc. In reality, Christians have always suffered for being Christians. In roman times the early Christians were being thrown to the lions. The apostle Paul, before his conversion , used to round up Christians and have them stoned. There are lots of verses in the New Testament about suffering. Romans 8 says 'I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us' and goes on to say 'we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time' The world is in a mess. People can be intolerant and unloving. We haven't been told as Christians that we will be spared that but that God will 'never leave us or forsake us' .He will be with us through it all, give us strength to cope with it and if ultimately our faith means we forfeit our life,it is only our earthly life, not our eternal life.
I don't question God in all this,I question how human beings can be so hateful to each other and I think how that must grieve God.And when there are news stories which are heartbreaking I try and find out what little we can do to help, whether that be physical, financial or prayerful.
Hope you find your way. Tell God how you feel and allow Him to reassure you of His presence. It is very normal to have doubts and in these 'wilderness moments' it is often where God is able to reveal himself more and strengthen your faith in the long run.
