Confirmation name for DS. Undecided!

Maxamilian or George?

DS wanted George, but I immediately thought of dragon slaying, and DS would never slay a dragon; he would make friends with it, and bring it home for tea.

So then we agreed on Maxamilian, ( St Maxamilion Kolbe) but DH pulled a face.

Then I remembered that when DS was 2/3yo he was exactly like Curious George the monkey, and was swayed back towards George, but that would be a totally ridiculous reason to chose a confirmation name.

Then someone told me George is no longer regarded as a saint. Hmm

He is here www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=280

I think people choose confirmation names for all sorts of reasons, not always wholly about the Saint. I am sure the Saint doesn't mind!

I remember when High School Musical was big there was a huge amount of Gabriellas!

I opted out of confirmation but most of the friends around me seemed to pick whichever name they liked the sound of. There was much reading of lists to find the "coolest" one.

CrazyHorse just my humble opinion but I think your son should choose. I am free church but was Anglican and so adding a name at confirmation is not common but is possible, maybe you are Roman Catholic and it is different. But surely confirmation is a sign of adulthood, in faith, so part of being an adult is making your own decisions. (Plus George is a lovely name) Smile

What is a confirmation name? Doesn't he have a name already?

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 29/05/2014 07:17

My Nan's confirmation name was Mary Magdalene. I didn't know a confirmation name was chosen by the person/parents or could have meaning to them - just thought it was a name that was given to them.

Now wondering why someone chose Mary Magdalene for my nan.... Grin

I agree with Italian this is a decision he is making to be confirmed so he gets to choose confirmation name.

Let him have George - you and your dh have already given him a name. This is the name HE gets to chose.

(Hoping my son will chose Francis)

CrazyHorse · 30/05/2014 10:09

Just to clarify George and Maximilian are DSs choices, and he was undecided which (I had suggested Basil or Cornelius, but hey).

St George is the house is in at school now, and St Maximilian Kolbe is the house he will be in at high school.

He has chosen Maximilian Smile

Reallyannoyedwithmyself I did know it's spelled with an i - no idea why I kept putting an a - but thanks for pointing it out - how embarrassing would that have been to spell it incorrectly! Shock Blush

If it helps the story of George and the dragon is considered allegorical and represents good and virtue overcoming evil and sin.
