No. What is it?

Books on shamanism. An apprencticeship under a Yaqui Indian. Gives a completely different perspective to our purpose, perception of our existence and blows monotheism out of the water.

You would like Lynn Andrews books if you like his sorkycake. I have read some of his books, certainly they were fascinating but more the darker side of shamanism which does not appeal.

Great books ... fantastic journeys in the spirit world with huge relevance IMO. Do you know why you feel strange at being blown away by them ?

sorkycake · 26/08/2006 16:58

The idea of perception I think. That it could've had such a profound effect on me is probably what bugged me, that I couldn't put them down, that I've read them all and want more .
It's such a different view of everything, it leaves far more questions than it answers, which of course is always a good thing! Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go from here?
Btw I really didn't think they were dark so something along the same lines would be much appreciated (oh and I'm atheist in case that makes a difference).

I have been on a womans shamanic training with an organisation called shamanka ... they are based in Dorset - they do a one day taster course to see if you are interested. Its not for everyone but might be a next step ?

Lynn Andrews writes about Shamanism and claims like Castaneda to have been taught by a Medicine Woman of Shamanistic origins.

I felt the apprentices in Carlos´ books were all rather interested in competing against one another and there was always a wary edge to them which while perceptive and watchful, was not a good energy or directive towards others. Just scored a copy at a 2nd hand shop last wednesday - "the power of silence"

Hi sorky - I did the introductory course and it was good but I was in a bit of a weird head space at the time . It was interesting to spend a whole day doing rituals and drumming etc with other women and we were guided on some good visualisation/journeying exercises.

There was a book we were suggested to read called Buffalo Woman Comes singing by Brooke Medicine Eagle which was also an interesting read. Have you thought about going on a vision quest ? - they are meant to be very interesting.

sorkycake · 28/08/2006 16:12

Ooh what's that?
