Hi Saint George,

I've just had a read through the poitive vibes thread and was wondering what your religion was. I have been interested in Paganism and Wicca for a while and was wondering if you could give me some info. I'm sorry if I have offended you by asking, I wasn't sure how to word the question.

Thanks

Thank you by the way.

Squarer · 19/08/2006 17:27

Sorry.. no cauldron, no entry

SaintGeorgeMarple · 19/08/2006 17:33

Grin

I've got a slow cooker, can I use that seeing as it's a bit more child friendly. Ds would probably fall over a cauldron on the way to the fridge.

Thank you so much for all advice.

Gscrym... I keep getting my mail returned. Is your provider having problems tonight? Try me.. squarer1970 at hotmail dot co dot uk

A slow cooker sounds a perfectly reasonable alternative to me

gscrym · 20/08/2006 09:48

I've e-mailed you.

Hi SaintGeorge. I've been interested in this for years, and am becoming increasingly disillusioned with the 'norm', which draws me more and more towards something like paganism/wicca/witchcraft (but certainly not the black arts which is what everybody thinks when you say it!)I've stopped short of taking it further up to now, as I have always been wary (scared) of being involved with a group, or coven etc in case I get drawn in too deeply. So is ti something you an do alone, and just the bits you want? Do you do spells for instance? Sorry if this has been a dumb question though.

SaintGeorgeMarple · 21/08/2006 13:37

I have worked with others, in a coven type group, but I am more comfortable working alone. I still join with others sometimes for big celebrations like Samhain.

Yes I do spells, have done a few for MNers

Spells aren't something you really should get into straight away though, not in a big way. You need to explore the faith first and make sure it is really 'you'.

Hiya Saint George,

I've been fascinated by what I've been reading. I'm reading 'Solitary Witchcraft' by Marie Bruce and The Hedge Witches way.

Can you recommend where I can buy charms. I've bought some candles and things but want to buy a little every month.

Thank you so much for your help and recommendations. Blessed be.

I meant to ask, does a Book Of Shadows have to be a proper one or can it be a hardbacked notebook.

You really need to buy by instinct. You shouldn't need to spend lots of dosh - things are pretty to have but not essential.

Stuff like crystals I would suggest you don't buy online, you need to be able to touch and get a sense for them before you select the ones you want.

Charms as such I make my own. I actually get most of my bulk supplies (like bags for charms) from my mum, her favourite supplier is wholesale only . I use herbs from my garden and write my own spells.

As for candles, I tend to buy bog standard 'dinner' candles as they come in a wide range of colours and can be bought in bulk cheaply. If you can find a shop where they do mixed colours, I recommend you just buy 2-3 of each colour at a time to build up a stock. Black and white I buy by the dozen as I use them all the time.

As for the major stuff like Athame, Wand etc., none of that is essential at the beginning. My cauldron is an old cast iron pan with the handle removed , my wand is home made, my Athame was a gift and so on. I strongly believe that those things will come to you when they are ready.

SaintGeorgeMarple · 01/09/2006 14:37

Book of Shadows can be anything you can write in

I actually have 2. One is a folder of scraps of paper with jottings, musings etc and I work with it all the time.

The other is a hardbacked book, with hand made paper pages. I choose very carefuly what eventually ends up in there. I work on it in the winter months and put a lot of love and care into my work in it.

Thank you, I thought it was a bit much for a note book when I can find some really nice ones for less. All your advice has been great.
