Grandparents as Godparents?

Is this acceptable? Most of our circle of friends are non-religious, and we're struggling to find anyone who's Catholic, other than my parents, to be our DDs godparents for her imminent Baptism.

Is this a done thing?

(Can you tell I'm somewhat 'lapsed'?)

I am an extra Godparent to my dgd, as neither of the people my dd and her dh wanted as godparents were practising Catholics.
Our Parish Priest was fine with this and its me that takes her to Mass anyway.

Thanks Heron...it's similar for us. A least I know our parents will be doing it because the want to, not because they feel obliged, or hypocritical.

Of course you can have GPs as godparents, but also need to recognise that they won't be around for ever. Their principle purpose is to pray for the child.

I don't know if its true for Catholics, but in the Church of England you can be god parents to your own children.
