Getting feelings of happiness/oppression when visiting somewhere, places/buildings?

I went to a holiday cottage in North Wales last week and the place just had a horrible oppressive feeling about it. The new part at the back felt fine where the kitchen and bathroom is, but the rest felt horrible, especially the stairs.

We had some lovely days out but whenever we got back the feeling returned.

I have felt it in places before too.

I did some research but not much is coming up online apart from the cottages housed workers building a nearby estate. There was 3 cottages in our row and we were in the middle, and the neighbours one side own the cottage. They had to do a lot of work to it when they bought it, and then rented it out but when they moved out after a couple of years turned it into a holiday let.

Has anyone else felt this?

Yes! Awful feeling when viewing a house once. Felt physically sick in the main bedroom. Couldn't have slept in there for love nor money.
The house is still on the market now, despite being gorgeous looking so I do wonder if I wasn't the only one to feel that way.

Hmm there must be something putting them off carly

When we were house hunting as soon as I walked into our house I just knew it was right for me, and other houses we looked at just felt wrong but I couldn't say why.

The house we lived in for 20 years we looked at on a misty, gloomy, drizzly autumn day. It was empty and very scruffy and old fashioned.
But, every room we walked into was a pleasant surprise, don't know why.
It was a small cottage, it definitely had a lovely "feel" about it.
We changed lots, and added lots and it always kept that feeling.
Even small children commented that they liked it, to the amazement of their parents.
May have been partly the nutty colours I painted it Grin

One place we looked at when we were house-hunting was a small cottage that was a couple of hundred years old. It looked beautiful and I was desperate to view it. But once inside it felt a bit menacing, like there was some sort of disturbance in the air. We went upstairs to the bedrooms, and I felt a bit yuk - as if I was really nervous and had butterflies in my stomach, and by the time we reached the pretty attic conversion I'd started shaking and trembling. I actually thought I was going to be sick and had to rush downstairs and outside where I just leaned against the wall, gasping for breath. It was awful, yet my husband and the estate agent hadn't felt a thing.

On the other hand, we pulled up outside another house and I just sat back in the car seat and smiled, before we'd even been inside, and told my husband that that was the one. And it was!

I'm so glad it's not just me, I was starting to doubt myself but I felt it all the time we were there, even in the daytime with the sun shining in.

I haven't had much luck finding out about the house, but for some reason I feel I need to know?

We spent ages house hunting, but nothing felt quite right. We viewed a house two up from this one, didn't like it and we were just leaving when the next door neighbour popped her head round the gate and said "The house two doors along is for sale, it's only just gone on the market so there isn't a board up and no details written up yet. The owners are away but have left a key with me. Would you like to see it?"

We did, and as soon as we walked in I knew it was the right one.

We're still here nearly twenty years later :) Loads of people have commented on what a lovely 'feel' the house has.

OP, can you give us any more details on the holiday home?

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 06/09/2013 16:52

What sort of details, do you mean a link for the property?

If I put a link on rather than the address then it wouldn't bring this thread up on a google search of the address would it?

Hi, I don't know, tbh. I've messaged you :)

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 06/09/2013 17:33

I've sent a reply :)

Would feel bad if people did a google search and this came up as the owners are lovely and I wouldn't want to put loads of people off, though I don't think this thread would I just don't want it to come up on a search.

Thank you, I've replied to you, and completely understand your reluctance to put a link up :)
