I want to know more about Plymouth Brethren

I'm curious about the Plymouth Brethren, there is a meeting place near my home & I often see families with the females wearing headscarves & I know nothing about this branch of belief at all.

I've tried Wikipedia but its very word dense & I can't get the entire page on my phone (computer is broken).

Is there anyone who can give me some info on the Brethren, just some main points of the religion & what its all about please, purely for my own interest?

:)

we basically just follow simple Christianity and our families are our main priorities in life! I think you will find that anyone who speaks negatively about us has had very little or nothing to do with us. There is a lot of misinformation out there about us.

Cult.

We are not a cult - we love the Lord Jesus Christ and believe that He died for us, like a lot of the population in the world

Argument from numbers. Cult.

That's one reason we like to have our own schools to educate our kids - there's a lot of non-clean stuff that goes on in public schools.

How fucking dare you, also- cult.

Basically, we see the Bible as the guide for everything we do

Cult.

Exclusive Brethren is different I think.

There were some DC at my school from the Plymouth Brethren, they left after GCSE. I was friends with one from age 9-14ish, we asked him loads of questions about his religion, eg why his father preached on Saturdays in town (he did too as he got older). At the time Neighbours was the trendy TV show to watch, and classmates used to battle to be the first to tell him the latest plot developments! Think he bent some of the rules somewhat!

Hi stones, many people in the Plymouth brethren Christian church are kind, generous and delightful but sadly there is a fairly evil and controlling hierarchy which they are mostly unaware of. My parents left in 1970 and her sister was not allowed further contact with her. One of my cousin's children decided to leave a few years ago and was allowed no further contact with parents, siblings, grandparents and friends. He tracked down my parents who took him in. They did not even know of his existence. It is a cult sadly but that does not stop its members being likeable.

I have heard of families shunning members

Stones1203 · 14/11/2018 00:21

Why dont they like wearing ties ??

vdbfamily · 14/11/2018 20:19

If not wearing ties, that is fairly new thing as ties would have been always worn when we were members and even now 45 years on I rarely see my dad without a tie on.

"All this rubbish about being 'brainwashed'....sorry IG I'm the only one with this view, but people choose what they want to believe in. Its their choice, and you can make this choice whatever age you are, and you can change your mind too. Come on....that's obvious surely?!"

Well, no.

"All this stuff about ripping families apart ...wow. Its their choice, and the person that leaves would know the regulations of separation so its a bit like take it or leave it!"

How is that a fair choice? And you don't get to choose which family you're born into.

I saw a good meme today on FB ( actually on a closed group for ex members of the PBCC) and it said something along the lines of ' you can tell if a group is a cult or not by what happens when you try to leave' . That to me is the evidence. Most parents would not turn their backs on their children just because they did not believe the same as them. I am a Christian with PBCC roots. My children come to church with us at the moment. If as young adults they choose not to, I would want to remain close to them, not only because I love them but because I would also want to continue to share the love of Christ with them in the hope that one day they would follow him. Cutting off all contact is cruel, and it is not just with young adults, if a married adult is 'withdrawn from/ shut up/ kicked out of fellowship the PBCC do all they can to keep the partner/ children in the cult. They are then brainwashed into the wickedness of their partner/ parent and if they fight for custody they often find their kids not wanting to see them as led to believe they are evil. If you are on the outside and in contact with recent leavers, it is very very harmful group. The head honcho takes in a fortune from the giving of his followers and profits from their own IT network which they HAVE to subscribe to. He flies around in a private jet and if anyone tried to take them on legally, they are often squashed by the sheer a punt of fish that can be thrown at their lawyers. It is truly heartbreaking for families divided by this and my prayer is that the man of God will be toppled by his own arrogance and greed and seen for what he is.
