If an Indian (eg) person heard someone say 'oh my Buddha' would they be offended? Do Christians, when they hear ' Christ on a bike' and 'OMG' get offended? G

sorry if this has been ddiscussed before, Im fairly new to this particular forum.

It really bewilders me, this current saying 'Christ on a bike'. I mean, what the IS that?
You NEVER hear anyone saying 'oh my Mohammed' or 'Oh my Allah' yet its okay to say anything pertaining to God/Heaven/Christ?

anyone have an answer or am I just being pedantic?

If you're going to be pedantic...

marjproops · 25/03/2013 20:48

Oh for .........Cog Im not saying all Indians are Buddists any more than any other culture are all something else, try and understand the OP question please, why should i have to explain myself? Im not being pedantic at all.

Am i not making sense? all im asking is would ANYONE of ANY other faiths get offended if their Deity or whoever or whatever they believe in was being used as an expletive.

Any clearer?Hmm

Clear yes. The answer is being offended is subjective... not generalisable :)

Buddha isn't a deity is he? Confused

TheFallenMadonna · 25/03/2013 22:39

I'm Roman Catholic (a bad Catholic...) and I don't bat an eyelid.

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph" was my Grandma's epithet of choice.

UniqueAndAmazing · 25/03/2013 22:39

I'm christian and I use christ-like exclamations myself.
if someone pulls me up on it, I jyst tell them that god/jesus is in everything I say or do and I'm asking for help more than anything Wink
and apologize if it's offended the listener.

Not sure whether this is relevant, but we live in Malaysia. I often hear people saying Allah in an exasperated way.

springyhippychick · 01/04/2013 15:06

I don't like it at all and I wince every time.

It's pretty de rigeur to take a pop at christianity these days, to deride it and anything to do with it. Maybe that's a swing from our days as a Christian nation and people are wanting to make their own choice - but, in the process, swinging dramatically the other way.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 01/04/2013 16:41

you are assuming that the G always stands for god. I say "oh my goodness!" so when I abbreviate it to OMG the g stands for goodness.

PedroPonyLikesCrisps · 01/04/2013 20:21

Seems a bit of an odd thing to get offended by really. But then I don't tend to get offended by much. Don't see the point in worrying about it.

seeker · 05/04/2013 11:25

I don't let my children (when I can hear them) use Oh my God.

I don't know whether other faiths use their deities names as swear words- does anyone else?
