Christian music for kids?

I need some new music!!
My kids really enjoy the CDs we have but they are driving me insane! We have the ELC 'Hymns and Songs for Children'. a couple of Spring Harvest Little Kids Praise and Doug Horley's 'Whoopah Whahey'. Could do with something a little more grown up for dd1 (6), but that the others (4 and 2) will like as well. DD2 likes to dance!
What do you have thats good that you would recommend.

Thanks so much ladies! I am going to be in the big smoke (Glasgow!!) this weekend so will have a look for some of your suggestions. The Andy Gawn stuff interests me as I have been in Guatemala where the toybox charity works, so will definitely give that a whirl.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

erm,

mentioned this thread to dh. he has some cds left..

he made up these cds to publicise a children's event he organised, and to give to the kids of the event. it's a muisc cd primarily but has 3 short bible stories on it. the music is excellent - he didnt do it himself, some of it is colin buchanans stuff. basically different artists gave him permission to use their stuff on his cd as long as he wasn't selling them on. he has distributed them to churches etc and asked them to donate to his charity ( a christian trust) at least the cost of the cd ie production costs. the cds cost about 50p to produce.

if anyone is interested or would like more info... for themselves or church groups... you could email me janineandmark at hotmail

Not wanting to be contentious here, but I personally have problems of conscience buying Hillsong stuff, even if the songs are good. If you don't, that's fine, but for those who aren't familiar with Hillsong church (which would probably be most people outside Sydney) can I suggest that you check out the institution a bit before you buy? I don't want my money to support them. You may or may not share these reservations.

How bout Ian White stuff - it's a bit dated noe, but my 3.5 year old loves all 3 of the childrens cds - you can get them on one compilation cd - I'm still mangling my crinkly old cassettes in the car! There are some great songs on there.

Veggietales bedtime one is ok, but Junior Asparagus can really grate after a while.

Anything on the "Happy Mouse" label is good too - acoustic instruments and a bit easier to listen to after the 40th repeat. We have "Jesus loves Me this I know" and "Jesus is my friend"

A friend from church gave ds "Crazy Praize" which would be good for primary age kids, but ds loves it!

i remember a friend's ds (9) coming back from Spring Harvest absolutely disgusted with the kids praise tent. He told the whole church that Dougie Doug Doug was Crappy Crap Crap Grin

Ds loves the fandabidozie cd - the dvd has all the dance moves/signing that older children would love too.

Its nice to know there's so much good stuff out there!

Anyone do me a link for Psalty?! Miss it terribly! Loved performing Psalty at sunday school!

We did many a performance with Psalty and the songs were FAB!

Have found the lovely Ian White! \link{http://www.littlemistymusic.com/Little Misty Music}

JARM - have found some Psalty DVDs. CrossRhythms is a pretty huge site so bound to have the CDs too if you have a search.

Have you got sky? I noticed today that there is a Christian family radio staion. Didnt listen to it but it might be worth a try. Not much good for driving though unless you have a digital radio to hand.

lexiemum · 27/03/2006 22:13

here's a couple that might keep the older ones interested too - they are all parodies of up to date charts with a few older tunes for us.

picking up pieces from thread - is anyone still after veggie tales? think my dad probably still stocks it - if anyones interested I can give him a call.

I highly recommend Ishmael's music, he's got trendy stuff for older kids I think he teamed up with a group of girls and did a dance type dvd but he also does great stuff for littlies. If you search under ishmael or glorie company - infact I think the website is www.ishmael.org.uk.

I enjoy listening to it too my dd (nearly 3) knows lots of the words to the songs cos they are quite simple.

I'm not keen on Little Kids Praise as there's a lot about penal substitution, which we don't believe in. I find it hard to get Christian music for any age which doesn't take a mainstream evangelical line. We do have a really great lullaby CD by Twila Paris that you can get from Amazon - suitable for any age really - I've been listening to it every night since dd2 was born 2 yrs ago and I still like it! Most of the time we play music that we just find good to listen to - classical, contemporary or nature sounds - after all it all comes from God.
