She asked who or what is God?
And if God made Adam and Eve,who made God?
I explained that people believe different things.Thats why there are different religions.
But if you are Christian what do you believe?
If you follow a different faith, what do you believe?
I have posted in chat because i didn't know this topic was here.
TIA

No one made God. He was there in the beginning.

If you want to know the basics of what Christians believe, Google the Apostles Creed.

Christians believe that God has always been there.

I think all other theists believe that too.

Thank you for your replies.
It's so hard to explain to a 10 year old, when i what her to be able to make her own mind up.
More so because i'm not even sure what i believe.

Why is it hard? Just say some people believe this- some people believe that. Some people don't believe any of it.

There's quite a few decent books on the worlds religions aimed at children - i'd point her in the direction of one of these via the library or amazon. Most of them cover the main world traditions in quite simple terms, without inferring that one is superior to another. They tend to ignore or barely cover the less institutionalised faiths though.

My ds has a way to go before he starts asking those questions (he's got to learn to talk first!) but when he does I will teach him that many paths lead up the same mountain and he needs to find the one that is right for his journey.

I think it's great that you want your dd to make up her own mind btw.

What I believe, is that primitive peoples made up things that helped them cope with things like seasons and growing crops.

That all religens are man mad (and I mean man not woman) and have been used to subjegate women.

Older religeons such as that practices by ancient Egyptions, pagans and Vikings, along with Romans and acient Greek have multiple gods.

Seeker, quite a few of the polytheistic religions have specific stories that explain how the different gods came into being. There are many more religions than just the monotheistic Abrahamic ones.

Both Islam and Judaism believe in one God (the Jewish Shema says behold our God is one) and Christians (I'm one) believe in the trinity - one God, but Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Who existed before the creation of the universe in mutual love and will always continue to exist.

I spent 2 years studying it to get my theology degree. I still don't understand it!!

I say that if we could understand God then He/She/It would be within our understanding and so could not be God.God is as far beyond humanity as humanity is beyond the simplest insect-the one can have no grasp of the essence of the other.
We cant grasp the concepts of infinity or eternity and we certainly cant understand God.
