At the C of E Church we are having our son christened at,the vicar is called Father. I thought this was a Catholic term?

We had a Father at the Church in my home town.

Maybe he has Catholic leanings, at least ceremonially if not doctrinally

Some c of e churches are more catholic than others . So some vicars do refer to themselves as father other as vicar or rev or whatever .

Thank you for the replies. I have to say he is the most kind, amenable vicar that I have spoken to,just lovely.

My husband is CofE and called Fr. XXXX (well, obviously not XXXX. That makes him sound like an international man of mystery).

The CofE is a funny old beast. It's unusual in that it isn't wholly a protestant church. Technically it is 'catholic and reformed'. So there is a vast range of ways in which people practice their faith and worship, all under the same umbrella. Some CofE vicars wear 'normal' clothes, and are called Rev. or pastor. Some CofE vicars wear all black, dogcollar, cassock, etc. ie. the works, and are called Fr.
