we moved into a new built house 4 years ago.everything was fine up until i was pregnant with baby number 5 (first pregnancy in this house).at first we used to see shadowy things out the corners of your eyes, which you just put down to your imagination or car lights outside.but then things started happening.whilst still pregnant,i'd walk towards a door and it would open.we put it down to wonky floorboards!when dd was 6 weeks old she was diagnosed with cf.she'd lay in her chair in the living room and watch 'nothing' go from one side of the room to the other, and smile at it.both myself and dh lost grandparents last year and dh lost another this year, and we were wondering if one of them were watching over dd.i was walking down the stairs a few weeks ago,saw dh go in the kitchen.i went straight into the living room, and he was sat there!i totally freaked out because what i saw was a solid thing going into the kitchen.the hallway leads from the front door to the kitchen with the living room on your right which you walk past to the kitchen,so he had no way of getting back in there before me!i made him go and look to see if we had a burglar!!i've been told by a psychic that i am psychic (not been able to predict the lotto numbers yet though!!)you do have a feeling that youre not alone though.even our dog has started growling at nothing in the hallway, and often stands in front of me as if protecting me (he's a japanese akita and they are known for protecting their owners).just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this after the birth of a baby.if it was only me seeing things then i'd say i'd lost the plot, but everyone else in the house sees things and have doors open for them!(very courtious spook!!)i dont rush into the 'its a ghost'thing as i keep looking for rational explanations first,so far havent found one!!!

Try not to be frightened. 9 times out of 10, you're just dealing w/some energy in a form that's a little out of the ordinary is all.

BTw, if you have a 14 year old, make sure he/she isn't secretly playing w/ouija boards, tarots, or dabbling in the occult at all.

doormat · 09/02/2006 16:25

no just had to live with this sort of thing

doormat · 09/02/2006 16:26

even a piece of paper can be used as an oiuja board

expatinscotland · 09/02/2006 16:26

Yes, some people perceive things differently as well. It can be hard to come to terms with, but once you do, it's just part of life, like being able to smell a scent others can't.

doormat · 09/02/2006 16:28

has your dh seen anything, felt, smelt etc

stephanie21 · 09/02/2006 16:30

when i was 15 my cousin was murdered.the whole family was shocked.i walked into my bedroom one night and 'saw' my cousin sat crouched in the corner crying.i screamed and ran down to my mum,who said i was just upset and thats why i had seen him.when we went to his grave a few years later to take some flowers,as we walked into the cemetary,i saw a young man sat on the bench opposite my cousins grave.i said 'god look, that bloke looks like our martin',my mum said there was no one there.when we got to the grave the willow tree next to it started swaying really violently.my mum said 'he wants us to leave'.as we walked away the tree stopped completely still.the whole cemetary was totallt silent again, and as we got back in the car at the gates, the man was sat there again opposite martins grave.i said a silent goodbye to him.never told anyone else about this and my mum refuses to talk about it.

dh has seen and heard things too.he ran in one night when he was feeding the rabbit, the backdoor actually closed and locked.

static off new carpets can play with electrical items

also the room with most activity, tie a piece of string with a bell on to doorframe, sometime you will find out cuprits are not paranormal (not saying it isnt going on, but you need to make sure every possibility is ruled out)

expatinscotland · 09/02/2006 16:38

Doormat brings up a good point, try to rule out every option before thinking it's paranormal.

It's hard, but don't let it frighten you.

My folks had a place w/what turned out to be dodgy wiring that used to scare the hell out of my mother.

stephanie21 · 09/02/2006 16:40

we put the bedroom door opening down to the floorboards being wonky.they do creak abit when you walk over them,so it could be that that makes the door open.the back door usually slams shut quite loudly.even when there are no windows open in the house to cause a draught.we've also had the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway.we dont smoke, but both our parents do and so we often blame our coats when we have beenn to there house (my mum is married to dh's dad!after we had got married first!).although the smoke does smell fresh.

dont think ds would dare do a ouija board.he has behavioural probs and is blind in one eye,so i guess he has alot of emotional hormonal energy running through him.i always look for a rational explanation first.i even make up explanations when there isnt one!!

An uneven floor can also cause doors to slam. In my parents' case, the dodgy wiring was caused by serious cracks in the foundation and subsidence, hence, the house became uneven and doors would shut, blow open, windows would slam, etc.

Luckily, it was a rental house .

doormat · 09/02/2006 16:44

floors contract and expand with weather and heat conditions
this could be a cause for doors

to give an example we can open our back door and our loft opening will fly open (nothing paranormal just wind conditions)

stephanie21 · 09/02/2006 16:48

we are actually waiting to move.this house is a housing association house and they are building us a bigger house as we are soooooooooo overcrowded.i suppose the stress of us living on top of each other could also be another factor.we have blamed so much on this house though, and we do rule out the wonky house bit first.but that doesnt explain the man walking into the kitchen or some of the other things.sometimes, there can be such an overwhelming feeling of sadness in this house, which is usually full of happiness.ive got 5 kids,so you can imagine there is never a dull moment here!!

just thought of something else that happened but it wasnt in our house.we were out one sunday looking at houses for sale.we found this gorgeous one, which was totallt empty.being the nosey so and so that i am,i went up to the house to have neb through the windows.when i looked through i 'saw' in my minds eye,an old man laid in bed in the living room, with a face mask on breathing oxygen.i ran from the house and my dh was stood talking to the neighbour.(asking how long it had been empty for and how many had been to look at it)i got back in the car and told dh to get in.he asked me what was wrong and i told him.he stared at me and said the neighbour had told him that the man that owned the house had died of enphasima (sorry if thats not how you spell it!)and that he had been nursed at home adn died in the downstairs room.we didnt book to go and have a look round!

i know some people might think this weird but my mom died in'99 and i have seen her several times whatever rhubarb might say. when i was in labour i could feel my mom there and my fiance knows that she was. i was also only half aware of who else was in the room and was more aware of my mom than anything. my dd is now 10mths and sometimes when i talk to her, she isn't even looking at me but a spot behind or to the side - she even stretches round me to look!
when she was younger, i sat with my back to the settee (i was in the middle of the room) with dd in front of me, she looked over my shoulder and just started laughing! proper belly laughs too!
and when she's sposed to be asleep, we can hear her over the monitor having a right old chat with someone!

fransmom · 25/02/2006 22:17

and to add to that, since i was little i've always known that i should've had an older brother (i'm oldest of3) and it wasn't until two years after i'd had a miscarriage that my mom told me that she was pregnant before me - i don't know if she knew it was a boy or not.
ps have tried asking mom for the lottery numbers but no luck!
we get funny smells in our house too, my aunty ann always always burnt the toast and sometimes we haven't had any toast for ages.
what the other lady said about her visitor making her aware that her son was being ill, i was dreaming and i heard someone call me, i hadn't heard but my little girl, sounds totally different btw, was starting to wake up. so yes, i do think that our families watch over us. if others haven't seen their families, then it could be b/cos their families think it could upset them too much
