No, I haven't read any of those. I've recommended three to you on the other thread, if that helps. I'm particularly interested in monastic wisdom and early Christian wisdom Smile

PandaG · 13/04/2012 21:20

no, not read any of those, but have read some other Tom Wright - he is usually very accessible and easy to understand.

I keep seeing Tom Wright's name cropping up. Can anybody recommend anything by him?

hiddenhome · 13/04/2012 21:26

apart from the one that blob has recommended of course Smile

At the moment the three which really appeal to me are What Happens When Women Say Yes to God, Grace for the Good Girl and Becoming More Than Just a Good Bible Study Girl.

Hiddenhome I have added your suggestions to my Amazon wish list! I really want to read something aimed at women right now.

I would love to do a book club type thing on one of them but there isn't even a general book club in my town much less a Christian book one.

I have the Made to Crave one on my kindle (I think) but I bought it when I was going through a healthy patch at the start of the year and haven't finished it. Didn't think it was horrendous though.

hiddenhome · 13/04/2012 21:58

Oh, I don't really read womens books because I'd end up all cross and bolshy and dh would end up with the dyson wrapped round his neck Grin

blobtobetter · 13/04/2012 22:06

I was hoping for a book to make me less stroppy! Grin

Just finished Fascinating Womanhood but want something new to read!

Are there any reviews of these on good ole' Amazon?

blobtobetter · 13/04/2012 22:34

A few but mostly on the America site.

Love Amazon!

Just off the subject of Christian books for a moment. Try to get hold of 'Escape' by Carolyn Jessop. A true story of a woman's marriage within the FLDS community in the US. It's a great book and very inspiring.

blobtobetter · 14/04/2012 18:34

I wonder why most Christian books and films seem to be American.

You could try Captivating by Jon and Stasi Eldredge. It's aimed a women trying to build a relationship with God in Christ. it's really good if a bit American.

I think that most Christian books/films and the like are American because Americans are much more openly and fiercely religious than most folk in this country and the supposedly Christian Right has a very large voice in the States.

I have American friends who say I would be much better suited to life over there! Not sure whether that is a positive or negative!

Blob if you want "women of God" type books, I have read these within the last year:

No more Nice Christian Girl by Paul Coughlin
The Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney
God's design for Women by Sharon James

The first is to do with being a woman of God rather than doing what is expected as the nice Christian girl e.g. doormat.

The second is relevant if you are married and understanding your role as a Christian wife. It may sound very The surrendered wife-ish but still worth a read.

The last is what is says on the cover.

blobtobetter · 19/04/2012 18:08

The Feminine Appeal keeps coming up on my amazon recommendations - probably because I bought Fascinating Womanhood. I'm not married and I want a book for me if that makes sense. I tend to be a bit of a doormat / pushover and people seem to see me as just a good girl.

The first one looks good! Just when I had narrowed my list down to 3!
