I am not religous and neither is my husband, we have not christened our kids as we will let them make up their own minds and support whatever they decide when they are old enough to decide for themselves. When my oldest has asked wether Jesus is real i have said some people think he is and some people think he isn't.

We have recently been invited along to what is apparently stories and games for the kids at a church on a Sunday afternoon. I know lots of churches run playgroups etc and always thought these were fairly non religious affairs though I may be wrong as I've never been.

Anyway the thing we are going to i have since found out is described as fun-filled worship for kids or something like that. Now I don't mind going along to see what it is like but I am a bit worried that it may all be presented as fact rather than opinion. I know religious people view what they believe as fact but if questioned by my eldest will they say yes it is 100% true or will they say as I do that some people believe it is true and some do not or may believe in something different.

Obviously to make their mind up the kids have to be exposed to different view points but I suppose in a way I am worried about them being 'brain-washed' for want of a better word.

I don't think one session of Sunday school will brain-wash him, especially not if you have a good chat about it afterwards. It's been a while since I went to Sunday School but it was presented as fact, yes. I don't know if this would be the same for every denomination- what flavour church is it? How old is your DS, do you think he would understand why some people viewed their religion as fact and some didn't believe?

Are there any other local things you can take him to so that he can experience other religions? Or you could read some books so that he can see that there are all kinds of different beliefs.

If you're worried that he's too young to understand, perhaps you could put it off for a while longer until you think he'd be able to think about it in more depth.

Let me understand....

This is Sunday worship in a church, no less, and you want it to be "balanced"?
