Anyone been, would you recommend?

Is there much guidance or do you sort of fend for yourself?

Sorry, don't know anything about it. Is there much info on their website?

MitchieInge · 25/02/2012 17:18

thanks for replying, no not really

it comes up on a list of general retreats, would be interested to talk to someone who has been and who isn't a member/co-operator of Opus Dei - I don't have a problem with their basic message

have never done a retreat in the UK before anyway so not sure what to expect anyway

I suppose I could phone and talk to the organisers

Retreats can vary so much, even at the same centre. I went on one which was part of a group, although I didn't know anyone in the group. It was really good because we could share stuff with each other and also the retreat leader. Plus there was time on our own. When I contacted the retreat centre, they sent me a programme describing the retreat. Other retreats might be "individually guided", so you're on your own but have access to a spiritual accompanier, say, once a day. I've not been on one of those before.

You could try asking on the Ship of Fools website (suggest the All Saints board). There's a LOT of people on there who've been on retreats. Its mostly Christian, but in a decidedly wacky/humorous sort of way. You get all sorts on there, including some atheists who prefer it to the Richard Dawkins style of earnest atheism. Just don't say to anyone "I thought this was a Christian website" and flounce, because people will laugh, in the same way as people on here will laugh if you're a newbie then compare MN to netmums :o

Thanks! I will have a look and maybe pose my question there. It sounds interesting :)

they are taking ages to approve my registration at ship of fools

so just bumping this thread again in the meantime

That happens sometimes, they get a lot of applications, and if the person who does it is away, it takes a bit longer, I think.

MitchieInge · 26/02/2012 14:03

I wondered if I should have thought of a more reverent or at least vaguely spiritual sort of name, registered with this one, don't know why I'm so attached to it. I don't even have an itchy minge!

maybe I'll just start a wider Opus Dei thread here, people might have been on other retreats or to other events organised by them and have reassuring things to say about the experience

Nah, they have all sorts on there. If they objected to your username, they'd have said...

MarynotBeSarcastic · 27/02/2012 16:04

Your Ship of Fools account now seems to be active? You're on the list of newbies... :)
