If I am not a fatalist, what am I?

Someone called me a fatalist last night and said that meant I didn't feel that I had any control over my life. This confused me as I have always believed in fate, but I also feel I have control over what I do. But that having a belief that somethings are 'just meant to be' gives me a strength to cope with certain situations and helps me to make difficult decisions. Does this make any sense at all? Am I contradicting myself? I feel like I am. Blush

I believe:
-That everything happens for a reason.
-That if something is supposed to happen, it will still happen, maybe just at a different time due to a choice you've made at that time.
-That we all have a destiny and there are a number of different ways we can reach it, depending on the choices we make along the way.

This discussion stemmed from something I read on Twitter which said 'Two people who are meant to be together will always find their way back to each other.' My friend thought this was nonsense and I thought it sounded quite good. Blush

I believe in all those things you listed.

And I think the twitter thing sounds lovely,it's very much how I feel about some "stuff" Wink

I suppose it's the difference between seeing the idea of a "destiny" which has somehow been pre-written as a positive thing, and seeing it as a cop-out for taking responsibility.

I don't see it as a cop-out, and I believe absolutely in free will. I just think that, yes, some things are just meant to be.
