Quite a few

graceinabundance · 11/12/2011 21:49

I would quite like a wee chatty corner where we could just chat Grin

about things, about god or just life things, is there one or could I start one?

You probably have to define born-again.

JustRedbin · 11/12/2011 21:53

Loads of us. I get my internet inspiration from the Landover Baptist Church.

graceinabundance · 11/12/2011 21:59

if youre born again, youll know what I mean lol Xmas Wink

amerryscot · 11/12/2011 22:02

That's not very helpful.

graceinabundance · 11/12/2011 22:04

Im only looking for some chin wag with other believers, no need for the thread to get funny :(

shoutyman · 11/12/2011 22:05

A recent believer over here- was baptised and confirmed this autumn after finding God a year ago.
I wouldn't describe myself as 'born again' though because I associate that particular phrase as being very evangelical and for me a bit cringe worthy (not sure why though). I go to a high C of E church that describes themselves as reformed catholic.
Be nice to talk about new Christian type stuff though as I really feel I've only just started my journey.

amerryscot · 11/12/2011 22:06

I was wondering who you were including and who you were excluding

graceinabundance · 11/12/2011 22:12

Hi shouty, fantastic thats what i would like too, just a place to chat about stuff and maybe inner ponderings we have :)

I guess I am used to the term born again, as I made a decision to accept jesus as my lord and saviour som years back and thats the term the church used, but yes it is a bit of a naff term, just wasnt quite sure how else to word it Blush

OP posts:
graceinabundance · 11/12/2011 22:17

ps defo not excluding anyone

shoutyman · 11/12/2011 22:28

Hi grace yeah that would be good to hear others views. Regarding the term 'born again' I can't really pinpoint why I cringe when I hear it but I do, guess it's about my hang ups rather than anything else so use it if it suits.
Anything pressing to get the ball rolling?

PandaG · 11/12/2011 22:33

come on over to gloria and graham kendrick or something similar (is a thread in this section, tried to link and for some reason can't) lots of Christians there, chatting and sharing. I would certainly describe myself as born again, but agree it can have slightly naff connotations.

PositiveAttitude · 11/12/2011 22:34

Hi, I am !!

There is a prayer thread, in this section. Also there is a chat thread, although it goes off at a tangent quite often. I cant remember what its called at the moment - "Gloria...... something or other"

....hang on, here's the link to it.

Scoundrel · 11/12/2011 22:36

I have a question!

I go to AA. A huge part of AA is about finding a new way of living, a new way of seeing the world. There is lots of talk about having a 'spiritual experience'.

Once or twice I've been overcome by a feeling of 'goodness'.

Does this sound similar to being born again only without the jesus bit?

PositiveAttitude · 11/12/2011 22:36

x-posted with Panda, took me so long to sort the link out! Blush

shoutyman · 11/12/2011 22:43

Hi scoundrel I believe that feeling of goodness is God speaking to you. The 'Jesus bit' is pretty much non negotiable to be a Christian new or old Wink. If you feel comfortable and if it's the right time for you and if you want to then you could talk back. If not then God will always be there for you if you believe or not.
I hope you find peace wherever your own spiritual journey takes you and wish you well at AA.

May hop over to the other threads- you coming Grace?!

PositiveAttitude · 11/12/2011 22:44

Scoundrel I don't know much at all about AA, but I did think it had a Christian ethos and beginnings.

For me, the term "Born-again" when talking about a Christian would have to include Jesus at the centre. I would suggest that your "goodness" feeling is a "spiritual experience" though. Smile

MaryBeWaiting · 12/12/2011 09:02

Some people would say I wasn't born again because I was brought up going to church, was baptised as a baby, and haven't had a full immersion adult baptism. HOWEVER I've made an adult commitment to God, so I guess in that way you could say I was born again. I think this can be another barrier to fellowship, but from what you're saying thats not what you're about, so I promise not to take it personally! :o

PrimaBallerina · 12/12/2011 09:19

Mary I've always thought born again was what Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about in John 3.

I'd define it as someone who has a personal relationship with God rather than say, the habit of church attendance or whatever.

So I would say I am even though my Christian life is somewhat shaky looking.

I'll also look at the Gloria thread, thanks.

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 12/12/2011 09:25

I've become more spirtual since becoming a mother/ pg the first time.

I pray and take dd to church once a month.

I don't really know how this happened as such just more key god in and sought him out when I was pg with dd five years ago.

Don't consider myself born again. Suppose I think you need to be bad before in order to be born again. More found my own way regarding faith as an adult that has become stronger and stronger over the past five years

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 12/12/2011 09:26

Let god in. That should say

Cluckingmad · 12/12/2011 11:37

I would consider myself born-again, by this I mean I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I became a Christian (was baptised) 4 years ago but I would only consider myself born-again for the last 12 months as before then I didn't really have much of a relationship with God I just went along with the motions of going to church.
I dont think you have to be evengelical or have been "bad" before to be born-again it is about having a personal relationship with God, seeking him at all times and spending time with him daily, then you become filled with the spirit Smile

graceinabundance · 12/12/2011 11:54

thanks for answering guys Xmas Grin

Ill head over to that thread now as a we chin wag about faith and the likes is defo what I am after.

Genuine question - how do you suddenly 'find God' as it were? I am struggling with it all - have been for a year or so really, I have tried to 'feel' God, I've been to church regularly and tried really hard there too. I had to stop as I felt such a fraud - I simply couldn't 'feel' anything :(
