Churchwarden's role

After posting on this before, I've taken the plunge and said that I would stand as Churchwarden. I actually feel better now than when I was sitting on the fence, but what bothers me is that everybody reacts to the news by saying something like 'don't do it'. But the other churchwarden is a friend who is happy with doing a lot of the opening up/and laying out of stuff, plus I feel it's best to do it, and do it well, for a period of time then not feel guilty about stopping.
Anyway, has anyone got some encouraging stories about people who've enjoyed doing it?

Well done! It is a very rewarding and responsible role!

If everyone said , "don't do it", there would be no church wardens. Once the Holy Spirit puts this role on your heart, you have to accept :)

I am assuming that you understanding the legal obligations you are under as churchwarden.

From my personal observations, the non-obvious duty of a church warden is to be on-call 24/7 (between the two of you) to respond to any buildings emergency.

It is an onerous job, and we actually have four wardens in our church (two 'legal' ones and two assistants). It's good to share!

I've not and never have been a Church warden but am PCC secretary so I get to hear all that happens at standing committee, I think it can be a big task, we have 2 Church warden and one deputy - they seem to have clear roles that fit to their gifts. For example, one often works on a Sunday so can't do the hands on practicalb opening up etc so her gift is being a fantastic behind the scenes organiser - people really need to understand that but I fear there are the older folk who question why they don't see her at Church every week...

This book is recommended to anyone that joins our PCC www.amazon.co.uk/Practical-Church-Management-Guide-Parish/dp/0852446020/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320069449&sr=8-1 I have a copy but yet to read it Blush

I know three people who are, or have been church wardens. Without exception, they say that it is a big job, but they do (did) enjoy it.
