Ok. I would never dream of putting this up here if I had not had confirmation from daughter that this happened!

I had been in my bedroom, late morning, for about two minutes when I heard this awful 'groaning' noise. I have never heard anything like that before in my life. I have lived in this house many years and we bought it from new, so no history.

I leapt up and looked around, it seemed to be coming from the head of my bed but I honestly did not dare to pull back the bed covers. I wasnt scared so much as unnerved, but I didnt feel threatened.

The first sound was the loudest, it repeated off and on about 12 to 14 times, over the course of about two hours, each time getting weaker. My daughter heard it too.

It really wasnt pleasant.

I pulled out all the furniture and turned everything upside down in an effort to find an explanation but I cant find anything.

You can call me crazy, but I would rather you didnt :( It isnt even Halloween!

Did you ever find out what the noise was? A friend of mine experienced hearing some very strange noises during the night when she lived with her boyfriend (now her DH). After some (subtle) investigations over a few months it turned out to be downstairs neighbour having VERY noisy sex with girlfriend.

Not suggesting that your noise is on the same level but is it possible that it could be noise transfer from adjoining property? We get some transferrence of noise from our neighbours - seems to depend on the frequency; so I can feel/hear the washing machine at night, but not their TV. Both devices are against the same wall.

Red2011 No. Never heard it again, thank goodness. The house is only just over 20 years old, so not old and creaky and it is detached, no adjoining property.

And no pipes run along that wall.

Confused

Very strange, but glad you've not heard it any more. :)
