happy diwali

I'm waiting to see what the dts think of all the candles. They are only 7mnths. It's sort of crept up on us, as we only moved house two weeks ago, and I'm still debating whether run out for some fireworks. I'm jealous - can't even get sweets here neither!

The lights are to welcome the Goddess of Wealth - my hindu friend at work gets together with his grandad and uncles and plays cards - in an attempt to win lots of money, lol!

Kelly1978 · 01/11/2005 14:44

diwali means lots of different things really. The lights are to bring prosperity into the home. Rangoli are made - patterns on the floor, associated with Lakshmi the goddess of wealth.we leave all the lights on in the house and light candles. It celebrates the return of ram and sita from 14 years in exile. It is the start of a new accounting year for many hindus. It is a very social time, exchanging gifts and sweets. The day after diwali is the hindu new year.

DP's family are Hindu. Normally we have sweets and lights and go for a fab dinner in Tooting - but DP is going into hospital today, so not much doing!

Diwali Mubarak, everyone.

Happy Diwali everyone,

Lots of fireworks here tonight too. Our neighbours across the road have some beautiful lights hanging all over their front windows...very, very pretty!

Have a good one

gingerbear · 01/11/2005 21:43

DD made a beautiful card for me today at nursery. And they did a dance 'with teeny bells mummy'

I think every religion should have a festival of light - light is everything. Fantastic. Happy Diwali - love and light to everyone!
