To whom do I pray if I want something?

If I've lost something I pray to St Anthony, but if I want 'help' in other areas, to whom can I pray?

Things like, career, safe journeys, health, weight loss - to give me strength, power and confidence.

Perhaps you could send me a link or provide me a list?

I've started my own business, but it's a bit slow at the moment as I have a four month old baby (and toddler), but as he's fully in a routine, I want to concentrate on work as well as being a good mother and wife.

thanks, x

Well, there are those who pray to the acsended masters, and I have to say - these are pretty powerful guys and girls.

I actually ask angels to help me out with these kinds of things. Give all your worries to them, and them let them go from your energy.

For example I ask Archangel Michael to protect me, my family etc Michael is very good to give you confidence, strength and power. If I can't think of the words to use sometimes I ask him to help me, and to speak through me so that I may communicate better.

Apollo aka the sun god is able to help you with health and fitness, weight loss etc

Archangel Raphael for health, weight loss.

There are many.

Good luck with your business xx

St Jude covers most requests. Or St Expedite if you think it's a lost cause.

onimolap · 10/02/2011 22:08

And here's a good list of patron Saints. Whatever you seek, and more, is probably here.

hugebelly · 10/02/2011 22:16

Wow... that's one hell of a list!

Smile No probs.

I just send out the thoughts and ask for help with any little thing that enters my mind. Such as, and this is a true example - I asked for my sugar cravings to be taken away. I asked this of AA Raphael. OR, if it oculdn't be taken away, then please point me in the right direction.
I binged on sugar for a few days after this, but I think this was me 'letting go'. Anyhow, I came across this guy Jorge Cruise, who promotes a bellyfat cure. It's basically high protein but you are allowed 15 grams of sugar and up to 120grams carbs a day. I honestly found it no probs, I was never hungry I still ate v dark chocolate at night. I followed this for 2 weeks and I didn't crave sugar once, I lost 9lbs easily.
the thing is, I think I ate too many eggs and couldn't face another one. I overloaded on the carbs and fell off the wagon. But, I did get the help I requested Wink

St Expedite is wonderful, but can be a bit tricky. Please remember that Saints are like human beings, and have their own personalities, quirks etc. Some of them are happy to intercede for anyone, while others will only intercede for people with whom they have a pre-existing relationship with. St Expedite falls firmly into the latter group. Plus he usually requires that you do something in return for him.

St Jude is more willing to help you if it is something that will benefit the community as opposed to just benefiting you. The Virgin Mary is not keen on interceding for you if you are not chaste/celibate; there is a male saint (I forget his name) who does not like working with women. There is another one who will keep unsuitable partners away, you don't even need to ask her; just having her statue in your home is enough. I find her great for women who are constantly drawn to toxic and abusive men.

For a safe journey - St Christopher is great.

Hope this helps.

"The Virgin Mary is not keen on interceding for you if you are not chaste/celibate"

Seriously? That has to be the most skewed take on the Marian tradition of prayer that I've heard.

melpomene · 15/02/2011 21:16

That list linked by onimolap is utterly bizarre. I note that there is a patron saint of arms dealers, a patron saint of chilblains, a patron saint of haemorrhoid sufferers and a patron saint of slander. There are two patron saints of breastfeeding, but if you read their stories neither of them seem to have anything to do with breastfeeding or nurturing babies.

LadyFannyofBumStreet · 15/02/2011 21:49

Jscot, it may be skewed from your vantage point, but anyone who has directly petitioned the Virgin Mary will confirm this.

jcscot · 16/02/2011 20:52

"but anyone who has directly petitioned the Virgin Mary will confirm this"

As someone who directly petitions Our Lady on a regular basis, I can only confirm that you're wrong.

GothAnneGeddes · 17/02/2011 16:33

I hope this isn't out of turn, but how about asking God. God loves to be asked. You move closer to God and He runs towards you.

masuki · 17/02/2011 18:14

gothanne geddes, yes exactly... cut out tthe middleman called jesus, angel x y or z, and ask directly god... the god who lies in the cavern of your very own heart.....

LadyFannyofBumStreet · 21/02/2011 23:06

Jscot,

It is not my place to question the validity of your interaction with the Virgin Mary (mine being the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, not that it should matter), so I will not say you are wrong/right, or that your experience is better/worse and I would appreciate the same from you.

LadyFannyofBumStreet · 21/02/2011 23:08

GothAnneGeddes, that is a perfectly reasonable suggestion; not out of turn at all. I personally go to a 'middle-man' because I find my issues are resolved quicker.

hugebelly · 23/02/2011 20:09

I shall give it a go - go to the middle man and straight to God, not at the same time and see who resolves things the quickest.

I find this all very interesting!

I am currently reading a book about quantum physics and the law of attraction. Apparently, praying or begging will not get you anything as you are emphasising your lack of having whatever you want. Instead you should put out the idea that you already have what you want, imagine it regularly and say things like 'I am fit and healthy' or whatever it is and then really trust that the universe will provide it.

I am in the middle of trying this out, haven't finished book yet though, also doing a mini experiment of my own to see what works! Will let you know how it goes but also sticking it on my blog!

Good luck

We used to be taught a nun when we were 13 who got us to pray to St Jude before every Maths lesson when asked why by one brave soul in our class we were told "because he is the patron saint of lost causes"! talk about inspirational teaching!

busymummy3 · 27/02/2011 21:19

PS meant to add we did pray to him recently while trying to get through for Take That tickets. We were successful!! and now my DS always asks me "what was the name of that saint again that the nun used to tell you pray to at school" before every footie match on a weekend.
