I have been a bit worried about this for a while, not sure if it is a supernatural situation or something wrong somewhere. What do you think, is this nomral?

My dd (10) told me yesterday she heard someone say "I am here, dd" when she was alone in the kitchen, dh was out and I was in another room. No source of noise in the house. This has happened a few times. She isn't seeing anyone - like a ghost or anything. What is it? I asked her if it was an adult or child voice and she says it sounded like a boy.

A few times over the past 4 years or so, she has told me that when she was cycling or in her room, she thought she heard me call her and cycled back or came out of her room to ask what I wanted but I hadn't said anything.

What could it be - any ideas? I don't think she is lying she is puzzled by it. I don't know what to think. I have never heard voices like that.

I don't think this belongs under this heading - nor mental health. Its just an auditory hallucination, no need to make more of it than it is.

I quite often awake sure I've heard my DH calling my name - its not like a dream - but he's sound asleep (and alive!). Nothing 'woo' about it, just a brain quirk

I just typed out a huge reply about my experiences of Hypnagogic/Hypnopompic hallucinations but it's gone!

It's worth a google, I know another poster mentioned it, but voices coming from outside (usually behind or to the side)and feelings of profundity, even though on examination what is said is gobbeldygook or vauge, or just a name or short order, is classic.

Hypnagogia isn't really a diagnosis in itself, it happens to everyone in fact at some point and really is just a 'brain quirk' as Grimma says, but for some reason some people just experience it regularly.

I also don't think it belongs under this heading, sorry but just my opinion. Might be worth a chat with your GP just to put your mind at rest. And if there are no other symptoms, I'd say mental health issues are unlikely.

Hope that helps x

Sorry to hijack your post. But shabbapinkfrog there is a group for twinnless twins called lone twins which is associated with womb twin survivors group For people whose twins died in utero.
You are right he will feel a very real and deep connection to his missing twin and has probably grown up feeling like he's missing a part of him.

And it has been said that lone twins are very open to the universe and the energies that lie there. This may be why he could see his brothers. Perhaps they weren't hallucinations?

And zzzenagain they say that children are open to all energies and other 'things' because their innocence allows them not to close themselves off to them as we do as adults.

My ds when he was around 2 would chatter away to a man he said lived in our house but who i couldn't see. I let him get on with it and didn't comment on it as he was too young. He's 17 now and still feels energies in places. There are certain historical houses that he wont go to because they make I'm feel I'll.

I'm not sure what happening with your dd. But if you're worried take her to your GP or a natural healer just offend out whats going on.
It might be an idea for you to find out what she thinks the voices are and then answer her depending on what she believes. The only way i can suggest to do this is to be positive and tell her its nothing scary, etc, etc, etc.
I hope you and your dd get some answers soon. Pleases don't worry tho.

unless you have become the MN special police without my knowledge Grimma, I'll continue to place my posts where I choose to place them.

I find it arrogant of you to tell me what I may or may not consider to be within the realm of spirituality. I accept you have your interpretation of it but you are not here and you don't experience it. If I consider something to be possibly a spiritual matter, I will post under this heading. If those posts bother you, no one is forcing you to read them. There are quite a few religious beliefs on here I consider "woo" as you put it, or even worse but I don't say so and neither do I go about telling people they can not post about them here or there.

I am interested in the explanations about hallucinations and I have been reading up on them because that's all new to me so I don't object to people bringing that up at all. That's been quite hlepful.

ZZZ I havnt read all these posts but i do believe that your DD is hearing spirits who have passed over to spirit world. They wont harm her, and she is gifted to hear them. She is most probably an Indigo/Crystal child who has contact with people who have already died. She is intuitive, psychic and clairvoyant.
My 10 yr old DS is Telepathic, psychic and has often heard things , and when my best friends son died 2 yrs ago, (he was 20yrs) my DS said "mummy, did you hear that ?" , "No" i replied, "Well, Mummy someone just said "Hi Jenny !" I asked him what sort of voice it was and he said it was a young, male voice.
It was the day after her DS had died.

3littlefrogs · 22/01/2011 10:37

My dd is very intuitive and spiritual. When she was younger she was an open channel, and the sheer volume of communication was becoming impossible to cope with. A friend who is a medium taught her how to shut down so she could control it.

She still has the most beautiful dreams in which she meets dear friends who have passed over.

I got a lot of help and support from my local Christian Spiritual church. Perhaps that would be an option for you?

ledkr · 22/01/2011 10:52

Is dd approaching puberty,i used to hear someone call my name when i was due on-i started my periods at 11-my mum said she got it too.

ZZZenAgain · 22/01/2011 11:21

Hi, sorry in a bit of rush today soin and out. Yes, Ledkr she is, how interesting if there is some kind of connection. I'll keep an eye on it and see if there seems to be some correlation in dates. Although why that be, I don't know but I'll try and note if there is some kind of correlation.

Some of your dc are having quite intense experiences, aren't they? I am interested in this concept of shutting it down. Am not sure if there is a local chirstian spiritualist church (we are in Eastern Europe) but I will try and find out. Thanks

We are going to see that Indian priest on Friday so I'll see what advice he gives me. I did the archangel Michael request - and that was quite something else. Very good actually. Don't know how or if it affected dd since she doesn't know about it but for me it was a strong thing.

I like the pmt reason its far less scary complicated.

StuffingGoldBrass · 22/01/2011 12:21

It is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Loads of people hear voices occasionally - I do so myself when tired.
They are just brain quirks, but if it comforts/helps people to think they are angels and fairies or the dear departed, that's OK too - it's only a problem when it becomes a problem ie if the voices say upsetting or scary things, then it might be worth seeing the GP - or (but only if the voice-hearer is reasonably comfortable with the idea) some or other mystic type. THough you'd want to go by word of mouth on finding one who is unthreatening and reasonably still in the real world (TBH what you want for this sort of problem is an honest charlatan who will be able to provide convincing reassurance without a lot of unnerving bollocks thrown in, your 'true believer' or nasty nutjob might make things worse).

ZZZenAgain · 22/01/2011 12:30

it is not worrying really but strange to me. I have never heard voices. If it is a normal brain quirk, why doesn't everyone get this?

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 22/01/2011 12:31

....not that I really want to hear voices.... Just curious why would some people hear things like this or have these auditory hallucinations - and not other people? I asked my siblings about this and they said they couldn't remember every having experienced anything like that

OP posts:
StuffingGoldBrass · 22/01/2011 12:42

Generally it's the more imaginative/creative types who have them, though I think it's more than likely that a lot of other people occasionally get them and just think, oh I made a mistake, or it was next door's telly I heard and don't bother about it.

BTW 'normal' doesn't mean something happens to everyone, just that it happens to quite a lot of people.

indigobarbie · 22/01/2011 23:06
