I love doing the present bit and on the mronign of the 25th december we all get up really early and sit down beside a fake tree and open them, cook a big roast dinenr with lamb and yorkshire pudding and then have a pudding aswell and wathc a dvd or two and go to bed.

we have lights aroudn the house and Holly and Ivy, candles and punch to drink all warming stuff

what do you do OP?

Himalaya · 26/11/2010 01:08

I don't really understand this question OP. How can you not have noticed that for the vast majority of people in the UK Xmas is a not a religious festival. Xmas lights, Xmas trees, Xmas cards, Xmas telly, Xmas dinner, xmas presents, Xmas decorations, Xmas holidays. If all these things were only for churchgoers they wouldn't be part of mainstream culture, but would be a minority pursuit.

That said I have proposed the idea of giving the whole thing a miss for a year, but got voted down by DH and the kids.

Yes, we love celebrating Winter Solstice. The annual return of longer days of sunshine is glorious!

In my younger days, Christmas break had a striking resemblence to Saturnalia Wink

Long live Mithras and all that...

Love giving presents at Saturnalia, love it love it love it! Grin

My point is that prune is an arrogant twit, not me. I just asked a question.

Methinks you should re-read the thread, then think about why you asked the question. Wink

I asked a question as well mummy2bookie - but you didn't answer it.

its not an unreasonable question.

We are muslim, our DSs get oodles of Eid presents twice a year from us, their relatives and close friends - At Christmas time we give gifts to close friends who celebrate it and enjoy the decorations and general Chritmassy feel with everyone in such a good mood! but the 25th December is just another normal day for us.

GarrettNoachides · 02/12/2010 21:19

Nope, my kids are happy enough with the doughnuts and music for Channukah (along with their small presents and hill of chocolate gelt and dreidels).

Unprune · 02/12/2010 21:22

Oh no I've been maligned

People are weird. The questions people ask are sometimes weird. The things people get uppity about are most definitely weird. Grin Wink Grin
