I didn't have too good a time of it at church this morning. I took both my sons with me. DS1 is 5 and DS2 is 3. DS2 is really quite lively. He doesn't like to sit still and be quiet at any time, whether or not he is in church. The children stay in the church for the first part of the service and then go out to the Sunday School. There are only a couple of other boys that ever go to church and they are older than my two. The children that are younger than him are perfectly behaved little girls. I often find myself faced with the dilema of trying to stop him from moving about, when he will shout out "no, no, no" or let him wander around in the pew a little bit. Today he was livelier than usual and was making more noise and was crawling about etc. I usually give him food to keep him quiet but it had no effect today. I was so aware that some people were going "tut tut" about his behaviour and that they were thinking I was a lousy parent and he was a little brat. I normally just try to rise above it but today I got really upset. I can see why parents with lively toddlers just do not take them to traditional churches. I've been going to the church for years and don't want to go and look for another church but it is hard sometimes! He doesn't understand what is going on and why he has to sit still and be quiet. Sorry about the rant.

Teaandcakeplease · 21/11/2010 20:26

CC - I hope your H now has the union involved and has taken advice from an employment lawyer Sad Prayers...

Jaffa - My boy is only 22 months and is a total nightmare, my previous church I was stationed at for a year for my STBXH job was traditional and I really struggled. It's not ideal but I'd sit out until Sunday School begun in your situation maybe in the hall but that's not the way it should be Sad Praying for peace for you and a better solution on how to entertain your lively boy x

CazandBelle · 21/11/2010 21:27

This morning I went to church with my Auntie in Plymouth (I'm S.Wales usually, but away for weekend, wedding prep for my brother who is marrying a plymouth girl in March). Anyway, I digress.

I felt so uplifted in the service. The minister interupted the worship to read a few verses from Isaiah 43 and pray. He said he felt it was for an individual and I feel that individual is me. I felt an instant peace. My Auntie and Uncle also felt it was for me (independently, we didn't discuss how I had felt) and told the minister who then prayed with me after the service.

43 v 1 and 2 "Fear not for I have redeemed you: I have called you by your name, You are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you and through the rivers they shall nor overflow you, when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. nor shall the flame scorch you."

43 v 18 and 19 "Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing. now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it? I will even make aroad in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

He then prayed for the person who was struggling with grief and despair, struggling with life who needed God's refreshment in their wilderness.

God spoke to me today.

I hope these words comfort others on this thread who are also struggling.

NorthernLurker · 21/11/2010 21:34

How wonderful Caz Smile Words of power indeed.

gingercurl · 21/11/2010 21:41

Jaffa - I sympathise with you. DS is also three and does not sit still for more than 15 secs, is seems. Today, after spending most of the service in the creche, we joined the congregation for the last 10 minutes. DS ran around the entire time. I managed to carry him out screaming when it was finished and had several people look at him and then at me, saying, "he's a lively one". "yes, he is." Hard work.

Swan and NL have felt compelled to pray for you both this evening. God is with you both.

gingercurl · 21/11/2010 21:43

Wonderful Caz. Thank you for sharing. God is good.

Teaandcakeplease · 21/11/2010 21:48

Oh Caz that is so amazing. I love it when God shows up like that, such awesome scriptures x

BlueEyeshadow · 21/11/2010 21:49

Still here, mostly lurking, but praying.

madhairday · 22/11/2010 08:16

That's brilliant Caz :)

Praying for your dh, CC

Just a quick visit, to ask for prayers for a lovely lady from church who has got an asylum hearing this morning. we really need God to intervene here. thankyou

NorthernLurker · 22/11/2010 08:19

Praying.

I don't believe this - have seen threads about it SNOWING at the end of the week. Aaaaargh - we have to travel to the wedding, mil has to get to us to look after dcs - from SCOTLAND! Please pray - it can snow next week Smile

MaryBS · 22/11/2010 08:27

Praying MHD. Anyone remember the Anglican priest who we prayed for asylum for? Must get in touch, see how he is doing... he won through in spite of all the opposition.

I was wondering if any of you ladies would commit to praying every day for our benefice of 3 churches? I have been fretting about what will happen when our vicar leaves, and the "what ifs" and the "in battles" which may (or may not) take place. Its come to me that I am called to love people, not battle them, and so I will pray every day that we can pull together as a community of Christ, and that our next vicar will be right for us all. And if 2 or 3 could pray for the same...

Praying for all intercessions here...

mufti · 22/11/2010 08:39

praying for no snow too NL , WE HAVE a wedding up north at the weekend , she chose the date as she hoped for snow apparently!
but we have to go fri after school and get back sunday., snow or not.

CaptainCaveman · 22/11/2010 09:18

Thank you ladies, your prayer means so much to us.

caz they really are amazing words, and I'm really happy that God spoke to you, and that you found it so uplifting Smile

Mary I will gladly pray for your church situation

I have been away for a while, but the feeling of peace I get just from coming on here is astounding Grin

MaryBS · 22/11/2010 09:38

Church situation needs even more prayer. Feel that the situation now is untenable, even with vicar leaving, due to other issues (disability). Am on verge of leaving.

DutchOma · 22/11/2010 11:11

My dears, I am absolutely speechless. How lovely of you all. they are absolutely gorgeous, thank you.

madhairday · 22/11/2010 12:17

Mary, will put your situation on my daily prayer list happily. Hang in there love.

DO :) Hope things are going well today. xx

Notquitegrownup · 22/11/2010 13:15

Flying by with a quick hello. Haven't read all the posts, but will try to catch up, if I can.

Jaffa, my two dss were incredibly wiggly in church too. Even when they were being good, I could never relax and listen or pray. It led me to discover this wonderful thread when I thought all spiritual fellowship was lost to me!

Prayers for all on this thread. It's still lovely to pop in, even if I'm no longer a regular.

God bless all.

amberlight · 22/11/2010 13:54

Prayers for all...Mary, praying that things settle for you in some way.

CaptainDippy · 22/11/2010 13:55

DO Smile xx

How anxious and fed-up you must be feeling, you poor thing. Praying little bumpy stays in a while longer yet to get healthier prior to emergence Smile wish I was closer and could be more practical support ....

Goes for all of you lovely ladies really!! Smile xx

How did church go yesterday gingercurl? Did your DH enjoy it? xx

Prayers for your bro and his future wife. I do so hope their Wedding goes so well and is a beautiful occasion for them both and all who attend. Prayers for snow next week and not this week. Wink xx

Oh Jaffa, people would not have been "tut tutting" - that is what children of your DS; age do. My girls happily wonder around church before going out for their group. I only remove them if they are making too much noise and obviously really distracted and upsetting people. I think people should be more tolerant and understanding. You poor thing. xx

You know that I am praying for your DH's work situ Fellow Captain - I didn't post it on here because I didn't want to breech privacy and also because I wanted you to come back!! WinkSmile xx

Having our piano picked up and taken to a friends very soon and DH's parents' piano delivered to us - They are down-sizing and do not want it any more ....

CaptainCaveman · 22/11/2010 16:42

Thanks dippyone, for leading me back to the flock! Grin

I also have 2 wriggly ds' who can't behave in church. ds1 now just plays his ds or plays with his friend until it's time to go into sunday school. DS2 however, just want to run up to the front of the church all the time. Most people are tolerant but there are a few older members of the congregation who obv don't approve. The main thing I keep in mind is that God wants us ALL to be there, and I really don't think he would be tutting away at me Grin. Hard to remember when you're stressed out with a lo trying to escape!!

MaryBS · 22/11/2010 17:30

Just back from my appt at the gastroenterology clinic. Am being referred for an endoscopy, when he realised I wasn't happy with a straight "its IBS" diagnosis. That won't be for at least 6 weeks. My blood pressure is also high 141/95 which is unusual as I've never had high blood pressure before, but understandable given the stressful day I've had.

DS in trouble at school. His DS has been confiscated (work that out if you can! LOL). He's playing a game which he got on Saturday, all he wants to do is play it, and I suspect his "being bored" at lunchtime is tied in with not being able to play it. Now he's been told that getting his DS back will be on a day by day basis - good daily report from school, he gets it back. Bad report, it gets confiscated.

Welcome Adversecamber, am praying. If you need a Lay Reader, I know one who might be available (me!) Wink

DutchOma · 22/11/2010 17:48

And as if the flowers were not enough, I found a Bach jazz tape on the doormat when I came back from the hospital.
It was a fairly stressful event. Physios, OTs and five visitors all at the same time (two of whom had specifically been asked not to come).
Bob is doing so well that they say he could come home this week. When I said that that brought me out in a panic (I just haven't the strength to look after him full time, nor the energy to manage carers coming in)they suggested some intermediate care. this would be in a home which is an hour away on the bus, but better than struggling at home. We shall see what happens.
They left him a zimmer frame to take home.

WisteriaWoman · 22/11/2010 20:20

I've had my prayers answered...! At the weekend my mum and bro visited a care home for my dad. They were told a room was available. I wasn't happy as I don't like this particular home and my poor demented father isn't as far gone as the other patients. I was praying that my poor dad wouldn't be sent there but DH and bro are v keen for my dad to be admitted to relieve the burden off my mum.
Great news - today we learned there is a waiting list so there's "no room at the inn". Horrah. In the meantime carers are booked to help my mum.

Mary - sorry to hear about the IBS. I had UC so I know all about that end of things Blush . Waiting for the diagnosis is stressful but once you've got it you know what nasty wee beastie you're dealing with and everything becomes manageable.

Prayers and peace for all.

Here are some inspring words from the last Homily of Father Mychal Judge
FDNY Chaplain,
at Mass for Firefighters: Sept. 10, 2001
.
You do what God has called you to do.
You get on that rig,
you go out and do the job.
No matter how big the call,
no matter how small,
you have no idea of what
God is calling you to do, but
God needs you. He needs me.
He needs all of us.
God needs us
to keep supporting each other,
to be kind to each other,
to love each other?
.
