Cof E- Choosing Godparents

Hi,

My Dh and I are an inter faith family- I am RC and my Dh is COE(albeit in name only). Our eldest children have been baptised RC but I am considering having our new arrival being christened COE. Would any godparents we choose have to be COE or can they be RC ? Also would they have to be a certain age ?

Many thanks,

B x

They can be whatever you like, whatever age you like!

Interfaith?!!! You're all Christians! Good grief.

They can be of any faith; if they are of no faith, they are called a "sponsor". It would be wise to choose godparents who are aged 16 + who would understand something of the role expected of godparents.

One of our ch. has godparents who are Methodist, Catholic and a sponsor. Another has two Anglicans and a Lutheran.

Thanks for that. Comtessa- you are right of course in one sense we would all be considered Christian. However, while there may be many many similarities in terms of core beliefs and values, there are some fundamental differences between the RC Church and the Anglican Church. The term inter-faith is used quite commonly here in Ireland- particularly in a schools context.
