Does anyone know the true meaning of them and their origin? I've heard a few and seen a few on the net but what are they really?

this looks quite authentic

American Indian origin - which is abit vague, not sure which Indian nations (tribe) used them.

Catch the bad dreams in their web.

Did you already know that? Just wondering what you mean as true meaning?

I have always suffered with very bad dreams, been thinking for ages of trying ones of these... do they work??

Papillon · 01/09/2005 08:10

pinkmamma No experience personally... and believing in their potential would help to catch the dreams I am sure.

I keep my bedroom as electric free and dust free as possible and with fresh air during the night... no closed door and a window open either in the room or somewhere else... seems to help me have crease free dreams.

that sounds good beetroot thanks. Hope you are settling well into your new home?

I personally want to develop dd imagination with visualisation so she does think to repress her thoughts but find good positive means for them even if they upset her... that it is not a wrong or crazy part of her mind.

That website linked at the bottom is good. I really like the idea of them and was thinking of getting some but would also like to be able to explain to dd about them as she sometimes has bad dreams. I think maybe the psychology of her thinking they 'catch' bad dreams etc would make her not so bothered by the dreams. But I want to be sure before I start messing with things I don't know about!

You are right swiperfox, the psychology aspect works well with kids.

They obviously still get the occasional bad dream so to prevent them losing faith in the power of the dreamcatcher, you can make a big show of saying it must be full and need cleaning. Ours get a good shake over the loo and we flush the badness away
