children's collections of religious stories?

Hello - I'm an atheist as is my DP but I'm keen for our DD to have knowledge and understanding of a range of religions, and to have a sense of the shared cultural history that children get from religious teachings. As a starting point I'd like to get her a 'children's bible stories' and wondered if there were similar editions for different religions (especially Islam and Hindu but am interested in a wide range) I think to be palatable to her and not just gather dust they need to be presented in a fairly 'western' format with the kind of language and layout she's used to (Usborne style books are I suppose the benchmark)but not sure whats out there.

Any suggestions?

How about this ?

There are links on the same page to other suggestions, too.

there are a whole bunch of these. They tell the major stories from world religions in a bright, child friendly way.

this is good as is this but it's for slightly older children.

Look at Barefoot Books for a range of stories from different faiths. My dcs have Buddhist, Indian/Hindu and Pagan/Goddesses collections as well as a really nice book of blessings from different faiths.

The Mountains of Tibet is a lovely story about reincarnation, and a Pebble for your Pocket (for older children) and Every Breath a Smile are both Buddhist by Thicht Nhat Hanh.

Have you read books like the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads yourselves?
